Chapter 12.

Jaydy.

THE ROOM FELL PAINFULLYsilent as Nicky left me alone to shower. I could literally hear my heart beating inside my ears. What should I do?I glanced down at my nakedness and grimaced. “Well, I need to get dressed, for one thing.” I scrambled out of bed and hurried to the bathroom before Nicky returned with food. After that insanely primal and hot session we’d shared, I needed a shower and some clean clothes.

Although it was possible to get ready magically, of course, there was nothing quite like a relaxing hot shower to wash away tears and the bone-deep ache of grief. I rushed into the huge shower and turned on the taps. Hot, steamy water filled the huge stall within moments, and I stepped under, face first. Glorious heat rained over my scalp and down my hair, washing away the sweat and sticky evidence of our sins.

My body ached in strange places and as I turned under the shower head, I ran my hands over my breasts and between my legs to cleanse myself. I was tender to the touch, and a foreign well of emotion built up inside of me at the memories that immediately flooded my mind.

Being with Nicky was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. Every touch and each kiss was just...spectacular. That didn’t mean, of course, that I believed in fate or all that stuff he was talking about so ardently. But was I attracted to him? Absolutely. And was sex with him incredible? Without a doubt!

I heard movement in the bedroom, my train of thought broken, and my heart leapt. I turned the shower off, dried myself quickly, then used my magic to blow dry my hair and get dressed. I chose a simple pair of figure-hugging, black leggings and a long purple top that covered my ass, and added a spangly silver belt that rested low on my hips as an afterthought.

I spared the mirror a quick glance, making sure I was presentable enough for the heavy conversation ahead, then bravely stepped out into the bedroom.

But tt wasn’t Nicky who was laying out dinner on a makeshift dining table, it was a male elf I hadn’t seen or met before.

“Hello,” I greeted him as casually as I could muster, adjusting my belt as I walked towards the feast he’d laid out. “I’m Jaydy.”

The elf grunted at me. “I’m Curtis. Where’s Santa?”

I frowned at the curt little man.Curt by name and nature.“Um, I think he went to get something for us to eat.”

The elf groaned at though annoyed, which seemed bizarre and out of place for this supposed wonderland. “I wondered why my wife told me to bring dinner in here.” He shook his head in dismay. “I told her that Santa wasn’t meant to bring you women back home.”

“Me... wait, women?” I repeated. Elsa had said a strangely similar thing.

Before I could ask another question, Nicky came back into the room with a jug of milk and two glasses. His smile at seeing the elf was one of genuine relief. “Curtis. Thank goodness. Thank you. I was beginning to think we were having protein milk for dinner—again.”

I stared down at the table, my mouth suddenly watering. The meal laid before us was a veritable Christmas feast, with crisp roast turkey and an impeccably glazed ham. Platters of roast vegetables and boats of gravy and sauces were arranged nearby.

Curtis turned towards Nicky, his hands on his hips. “What are you still doing here, Santa? I got a call from the Fairmont Hotel in Toronto. They were expecting you to check in at 2pm and called to confirm whether or not you were still coming.”

I was just reaching for a beckoning fork when those words struck me. I paused and looked up.

Nicky was rushing Curtis out the door. “Can you go ahead and just cancel that booking for me, Curtis? Thanks.”

“No, I can’t.” The elf practically had steam billowing out his ears. “You’re meant to be down in Canada meeting new women!”
