“Well, he wanted to come and see you, actually. But mom and dad don’t have enough power to transport someone like Santa across the country and neither do I.” Pansy glanced across at her husband.

I stared at Maverick, afraid to ask the question. There was only one person in Pansy’s family who had the same levels of power as I did, and that was the man sitting right across from us.

“He wanted to see you,” Maverick explained softly. “But we made him wait until we got back from London so we could check him out, ourselves.”

Pansy grunted in a scoffing sort of way. “Well, we had to make sure his intentions were true before we let him see you. You might be the more powerful witch, Jaydy, but I’ll never stop being protective of you.”

My jaw dropped open, but I didn’t know what to say.

Maverick continued. “He’s been chomping at the bitt at Pansy’s shop, waiting for our return.”

I jumped to my feet, almost tripping over the hem of my silly festive dressing gown. “He’s here?” I gasped. “InSalem?”

“He’s waiting outside, actually,” Maverick said, rising to his feet and moving toward the front door. “Can I let him in?”

I stared at Pansy, wide-eyed for help.

She nodded sagely.

Turning back to Maverick, I said all flustered now. “Um... yeah. Hang on!” I waved my arm over my slovenly, sorry-sack appearance and turned myself back into the red dress wearing, chic Mrs. Claus Nicky had first met. I even pulled out my new white shoes. “Okay,” I said, nodding at Maverick like he was the door man and not the next High Warlock. “I’m ready.”

Maverick opened the door with a flourish, and there he was, my dream man—my fairy tale—come to rescue me from the life I had outgrown long ago.

“Hi Jaydy,” Nicky said, taking a step inside. Snow had fallen on his clothes and hair, making him glisten under the lights.

“Hi,” I barely managed, even though I hadsomuch more I wanted to say.

“I think we’ll head home,” Pansy said all of a sudden, pulling me into a hug, before rushing over to her husband.

“So nice seeing you again, Nicky.”

Nicky shook Maverick’s hand and thanked him, though he barely took his eyes off me for a second.

“Jaydy!” Pansy called out.

I begrudgingly dragged my gaze away from the hunky man in my living room.

“Call me in the morning. Okay?”

I nodded. It was all I could do.

Pansy glowered and narrowed her eyes at me. “Make sure you do, or I’ll get Maverick to magic me in here to check on you.”

Heat flushed my cheeks as I imagined exactly what Pansy might be walking into if everything went well. “Okay, hon. I promise. I will.”

Seemingly satisfied with my response, Pansy inclined her head in return. “Goodnight then,” she said, waving her hand and dragging her husband out the door after her.

And then we were alone in my little townhouse in Salem. Just me and the magical, drop-dead-gorgeous Mr. Claus. My heart raced.
