She grinned at me.

And for the first time I saw a twinkle in her blue eyes that hinted at the happiness and spirit of the woman behind the tears. With that one look I was struck in the chest with a sensation similar to that of a swinging mallet. “Oof,” I gasped and rubbed the place over my sternum where the pain had hit me.

She rushed forward. “Are you okay?” she asked.

I nodded, though I had no idea what had just happened to me.Very strange.“Let’s go,” I repeated, turning to walk out my bedroom door and into the hall beyond.

“Santa. Are you hungry?” Elsa asked me unexpectedly, walking toward me down the hall with a laden silver platter.

The woman beside me froze with an intake of breath.

I glanced toward her.

She was staring at Elsa like she’d never seen an elf before.

Elsa wasn’t as coy as she put a hand on her hip. “Santa! You naughty boy. You know you aren’t allowed to bring your trashy women here. It sets a bad example for the children,” she chastised.

I chuckled at her scowl.

Meanwhile Jaydy crossed her arms over her impressively sized breasts and glared down at the elf in response. “I’mnotone of his trashy women, thank you. I didn’t even know him until all of ten minutes ago.”

The elf looked my guest up and down. “You’re a witch. Your magic is... impressive.”

Jaydy snorted. “Impressive? How did you pick up on that?”

“Elsa’s magic is immense,” I said, answering for my not-entirely-polite elf. “All the elves have magic that surpasses that of witches and warlocks.”

I turned to Elsa once more. “Jaydy and I are going to speak in the library. Would you bring us some dinner, please?”

Elsa nodded, the bells on her hat jingling as she did. “Of course, Santa.” Then she marched off.

Jaydy stared after her.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

She turned to look at me, her eyes wide and bright. “I reallyamin the North Pole, aren’t I?”

I couldn’t help but laugh at the stunned look on her face. “Come on Jaydy, the library’s this way.” Cautiously, I put my hand on the small of her back and directed her toward the huge room where my father had sat reading most nights. The hairs on my neck stood on end from the moment I touched her.

Is Jaydy the woman Fate sent me to be the new Mrs. Claus?Or was she a temptation, or test of sorts, I had to fight against?Only time would tell.

Jaydy.

MY HEART THUMPED HARDin my chest, while excitement and worry warred with one another, their combined electricity zinging through my nerves and making my limbs tingle. I had no idea what was going on, and for a witch who’d grown up in a wealthy family in a small town, that was saying something.

I’d always been the big fish in a small pond, too afraid to leap anywhere else in case it wasn’t as good as my home. But here I was, Alice, tumbling down the proverbial rabbit hole, and what an incredible wonderland I’d found myself in!

I have to be dreaming. There really was no other explanation for any of this! So, I was simply going to go along with the flow and enjoy it, because how often did I get to eat dinner with a beautiful man, even in my dreams? Especially one with long white hair and an absolutely ripped body?

Nicky’s hand hovered on the small of my back, his touch soft but reassuring as he led me down the hallway and into a beautiful library. The walls were covered by floor-to-ceiling bookcases, and the only other furniture was a small table and two large, comfy-looking chairs. They were the kind that seemed perfect for snuggling up to read in on a cold day with a piping hot mug of hot chocolate. Which around here, was probably every day!

“Oh, this is beautiful,” I gushed. Sitting down on one of the leather armchairs, I stared at the roaring fireplace I hadn’t noticed in my initial glance over the room. “There must be a hearth in every room of this place.”

I have to be in the North Pole,I reasoned. My hunky host, the plush chair, the sassy elf, and the crackling warmth emanating from the fire was too real to be a dream. I’d wished myself here and I was now actually sitting with Santa himself. But nothing about what I’d seen of the house so far said ‘I’m in the coldest place on Earth.’ From what I’d seen so far, everything looked modern, beautiful, and luxurious; nothing like what I imagined a fort against the cold might be like.

Nicky sat down and grinned at me. “Everywhere except the Toy Room. It gets far too hot in there to warrant one.”

I shivered, but not because I was finally feeling the cold, but because Nicholas was the hottest man I had ever seen with my own two eyes. His casually loose sweater and the tight pair of jeans did nothing to hide the strength and virility of his body. And when he smiled...wow. The beauty of his face hit me in the stomach with the heft of a fist. I’d never met anyone like him before.
