One day maybe soon, I would get to give Steven a bath. And while it wasn’t a big deal for everyone, I hadn’t given anyone a bath in years … after what had happened with my family. I missed being able to care for people.

Hopefully, when I asked him next time, he wouldn’t freeze up, and he’d actually hop into the bathtub with me. My lips curled into a smile when I reached my floor, my stomach light. God, I really hoped so.

Only bad part was that I wouldn’t see him for about a week.

A week!

“Bitch!” Heather squealed when I walked into the apartment. She was lying on the couch, smirking devilishly at me and pausing her laptop that was hooked up to the flat screen TV with an HDMI cable. “Another spicy night with the professor?”

I ran a hand over my face and giggled, closing my Foster Family textbook for my psychology grad program that I had left open on the counter. I grabbed it to finish my work in my bedroom for my internship tomorrow at Heron Adoption Agency.

“Well, your girl has a date on Friday night,” she said from the living room.

“A date?” I asked. “With who?”

“He owns a sex club downtown.”

My eyes widened. “A sex club?”

“Radiant.”

“Radiant?” I repeated, throat drying.

My mind suddenly went completely blank, and I stared at her in shock. I thought … I thought Steven owned Radiant. I mean, his sister worked there, and he had access to private rooms. That had to mean something, right?

“Why do you look so pale?” Heather asked.

“Is his name Steven Patton?”

“No, his name is Hector,” she said. “I’ve been chatting with him online.”

“Hector?” I repeated because that was all I could seem to do tonight.

I racked my brain for that name, but I couldn’t remember if I had ever heard it spoken at Radiant. My stomach turned, and I hoped that Hector wasn’t really an online name for Steven because my little heart would be broken.

When I had been reading up on BDSM online, I had seen that some people used fake names or nicknames—especially at first—before meeting someone new. And honestly, I didn’t know what to think.

And while I wanted Heather to have her own fun, what if … what if all this time, I had just been the stupidest girl in existence, thinking that Steven actually liked me because he was showing me some … favoritism in class?

I probably wasn’t the only woman he was seeing. He owned a sex club!

Still, the thought wouldn’t leave me alone. It was already so bad. I couldn’t stop thinking about him. Now, this? I would spend the next week thinking about how my professor that I maybe, sorta liked could be banging my roommate!

Wanting to be civil—and not crazy—because Heather was one of my best friends, I leaned against the hallway wall and smiled. “Is this a date, date or a dick date?” I asked, attempting to be excited for her but also jealous as fuck.

She tossed her hair over her shoulder. “You’ll know when I can’t walk.”

Turning around in the hallway, I sucked on the inside of my cheek.

Fuck.

Friday night, I would have to show up at Radiant—or his place—to see if Heather was really talking to him or to someone else entirely. Because if she was seeing him too, then I … I would have to drop out of his class before I got too attached to him.

Friday evening, I sat back on the suede couch at Radiant with Michelle and Hector and rested one ankle on the opposite bouncing knee. I sipped on my wine and clicked my tongue against the top of my mouth, wishing Sierra would walk right into the club tonight.
