"It's about freedom. About the thrill rushing through you, making everything feel so much more intense… letting go of control, proving blind trust. It's… fucking seductive."

I swallowed, catching myself in the very revealing thought that there was no way I would let go of control– because, at the same time, it meant I was never going to get what I wanted.

"How do you know?" I groaned nervously, not wanting to give away how long it took me to answer.

"You think I'd do something I don't know? Which I've never experienced myself? That would be a careless thing to do."

Suddenly, I realized how far Kaden had come, how far he'd grown. He wouldn't find anyone our age with the same level of knowledge. Or the open-mindedness that it undoubtedly took to be able to deal with what was going through his head.

"I am sure that one day you will meet someone who will be able to fulfill all of your wishes. And do so with great pleasure," I finally replied.

We hadn't come here to talk about sexual preferences, but that he had tossed another woman to the wind. He was supposed to be sad, a little bit lost. But somehow it seemed to be a typical situation: Kaden always got out of one relationship before he jumped into the next one– only to find out a few weeks later that he hadn't found the right one yet again.

Kaden had slept with more women than I knew men.

"What if I don't?"

I couldn't keep the grin from spreading across my lips. "Then you are in need of a Plan B."

He rolled onto his stomach, automatically moving closer to me. He looked up at me with those stupid puppy dog eyes, which meant I wouldn't be able to refuse him what he was about to say. Regardless ofwhatit was.

"You're my Plan B."

I arched my eyebrows in irritation.

"We're going to make a deal," he went on. "If we're both not in a serious relationship by the time we turn thirty, we'll get married. External influences won't be a factor."

More than surprised, I let out a gasp. "You'd ruin your chances of happiness?"

"I'm marrying my best friend. I can't see anything wrong with that, Nikau."

The fact that he used my full name told me this wasn't just some stupid statement he'd made on a whim. Kaden was serious.

Unable to express myself, I suddenly felt immense pressure on my chest.

Kaden burst into laughter. "Huh? I'm not that terrible of a choice. I know my grandma's recipes by heart. I can do the cleaning and the laundry. And most important of all, I know what you like to drink and where you like to eat. Which restaurants to go to when you're in a bad mood or on your period. Your siblings like me, my parents would adopt you if you asked them, and I make you laugh. That's more than anyone else can say. On top of that, I would be married to my best friend. Very few people can say the same."

"To your best friend that's a control freak."

"It doesn't matter."

"But with other women, it does."

"Because they're not you."

"That makes no sense, Kaden. You're telling me that in twelve years you'll suddenly be able to forget a part of yourself."

"Say yes, Nik."

"And then what?"

"Then nothing. In twelve years time, we'll both be happily engaged and some stupid promise won't be important anymore."

"Okay. Fine. If we're both not taken, we'll try each other."

"We'll get married," he countered vehemently. That made me laugh.

But finally I nodded. After all, I couldn't say no to him when he looked at me with those damn puppy dog eyes.
