I had found it surprisingly difficult to restrain myself– although I had no problems with making Nika the center of attention. In any case, I wanted to prevent her from falling too far too fast. Even so, it had been a revelation to me in a way I'd had no idea was possible. It was even harder for me and my uncontrollable erection to keep my composure when her body was clearly screaming for more. I was good at pretending otherwise, but with every hour I spent in her presence, it became harder and harder not to imagine what it would be like if… Well, if she decided that none of this was for her…

Better not to imagine it.

"Just put the damn contract in front of me, K. Then I'll do us both a favour, sign it, and whatever happens after that is betweenLonoand us, I guess."

"I'm not sure I'm comfortable with a fertility god having anything to do with this," I replied dryly, before laughing at myself.

"You should put in the contract that you have to go on all the dates I set up for you," she continued, tempting me to put my hand on the back of her neck.

"I'll draw up the contract."

"And if I don't sign it, it means nothing to you. So you should consider taking my wishes into account."

Of course. Nikau seemed to have already internalized that she was only at my mercy in certain scenarios and that she would continue to be a person who could think and act for herself in all other respects. Something that made me smile. And made her different from other women like Nancy.

"And there are things I will never do."

If she mentioned sex, I would probably die on the spot.

"I didn't know you'd recently become an expert on all the possibilities."

"At least I'm able to use a search engine for that."

"You can make me a list as soon as you sign the contract. And while you're at it, read mine now, so you know what you're getting yourself into."

She turned her head to look at me. "Is there anything in it that might surprise me?"

I wouldn't anticipate that for her. "Just wait and see. You'll find out soon enough."

Nikau

It was fair to say I had not found my way back to Hawaii in the usual way. Even though Kaden and I seemed to be on the same wavelength, there were some things we hadn't even talked about, even though this stupid contract had been in the air for a long time.

I still had no idea what it was about, because when it came to things like exclusivity, Kaden didn't have to worry. I had no intention of going out with any men. My one and only goal was to find him a damn good woman and to make sure this man was happy. Even though I had not yet been able to fathom the real problem behind his eternal search, he was not very forthcoming about it.

It was probably not lost on Kaden that I had been sitting on the shore for some time, watching him ponderously as, with the sunset behind him, he shot through the waves, impressively demonstrating his control over the board, his body, and the water. I was not the only one with my not so discreet, or even surreptitious, observation. There were other people on the beach watching Kaden. Sometimes unabashedly, sometimes out of the corner of their eye, but all with the same fascination. And Kaden? When he looked at the shore, it was always in my direction.

That didn't make it any easier to stay on track and think about what was wrong with this man, that he needed me to find him a woman. He was charming. He definitely had a good sense of humour and intelligence behind his actions. Kaden looked forbiddingly handsome, basically like a younger version of Aquaman. An apt comparison as he broke through the waves and looked like he was one with the water.

Or maybe I was seeing him through a pair of transfigured glasses, because we had already been insanely close then, and now it continued seamlessly, as if our connection had never stopped.

I didn't get to finish my thought because Kaden rose from the sea and came straight at me, his wetsuit already pulled down to his hips. I could hear the other women catch their breath. Well. Apparently I was enjoying the attention of a man they were all miles away from. The difference was that I hadn't asked for it. I didn't even want it.

As long as you broke it down to the essentials and didn't just focus on the fact that he had selflessly given me an orgasm, a gesture a lot of other men had probably only heard of in legends.

Without commenting, he settled down next to me and I decided musing aloud on what I'd said earlier. Kaden was beside me, so I might as well talk to him about it then try to find the answers to all my questions on my own.

"Why weren't you angry with me, Kaden?"

"Angry?" he asked irritably, unable to understand what I wanted to say.

"When I left and said that I didn't want to hear from you."

He made a knowing sound, as if he had found the thread. "You didn't want your nostalgia for Hawaii to be so strong– or you wouldn't have remained in Iowa."

"And yet I went away and left you on your own. You could have been mad and upset."

"But you didn't just decide to leave. And at some point, I just kind of blocked it out."
