"But he's not the one I belong to anymore," Lei repeated the words from my message right into my ear. "What is that supposed to mean, Audrey?"

He moved from my ear to my neck, causing me to close my eyes. "I'm tired of the games and the hiding and the pretending. I don't want any man out there to look at me and think he has the slightest chance with me. Because I'm already yours."

"And are you going to drop this bombshell right at the dinner table?"

"If you manage to calm my nerves first." My words were not lies. I needed a reason not to send these people packing and to describe the situation as calmly as possible. It would do us all a favor.

Lei unceremoniously set me down, pulled me back to his chest, and pressed my upper body against the wall. For a moment, I forgot how to breathe. It didn't get any better when my ass was pressed against his hip and I could feel how much he liked this change in our arrangement.

His hand slid forward over my hip and under the hem of my skirt. Not a second later, he pushed the annoying material aside. Followed by a low growl, two of his fingers slid inside me before he pulled away and focused on my clit instead.

I closed my eyes and raised my fist to my mouth, biting down so no one could hear my moan.

"If they could hear you, they'd know right away. No more questions," he muttered, pressing his hips harder against my ass. I rubbed my ass against him.

The fingers he was teasing me with were far from what I actually craved.

Lei made it seem like a temptation for the others present to hear me.

"It would destroy him. The knowledge that he handed you to me on a silver platter. He's probably telling himself that I stole you from him, when in fact the opposite is true. Look at you, letting me fingerfuck you in your parents' house. He would never have been able to handle that kind of need, but I'm capable of fulfilling your every desire." His voice sent goosebumps up my arms. I could have lost myself in the way he made my body sing.

A few movements of his fingers and I felt my insides tighten. A few words that proved to whom I really belonged and...

Even as I stood, the orgasm made me tremble and jerk. My suppressed moans grew louder and louder, causing Lei to slide his hand over mine.

"I'd really like to hear you moan my name in front of them, but I'd rather spend the rest of your birthday with more enjoyable pleasures than murder and manslaughter," he said. He pulled his hand back and I reached to bring his fingers to my mouth. I sucked on them until I could no longer taste myself. Only then did I release them and turn to face him, only to crash into a wall of desire.

Later there would be a lot of energy to get rid of. But first I had to face the inevitable.

It was much easier for me to breathe now. Some of the anger was gone and I could see more clearly. I glanced sideways at Lei, who, as usual, looked as if nothing had happened. That was always the case when we had contact with other people. Something I had noticed more and more since I had been living with him. In private– with me– he showed a completely different nature than with other people. He seemed unapproachable. Cold. Unaffected. A little too smooth. So far I had not found out why. To be honest, I didn't care, because I knew exactly who he was.

Silently, we walked side by side back to the dining room, not letting anything that had just happened sink in as we walked back through the door. Ourfakerelationship had just gotten four letters easier, and I had not had a chance to let that fact sink in.

Chin up, I fell back into my chair, though I didn't touch the fork again. The cake was not my favorite anyway. So why should I bother with it when this was all about formalities?

I cleared my throat before looking at my father. "I'm not going to apologize to Alexander because there's nothing to apologize for. In fact, I'm grateful to him for it. His decision has opened up new possibilities for me."

"Your place in this family is on shaky ground if you continue to behave so unreasonably, Audrey," he replied.

Fingers slid down my thigh, reminding me to take deep, steady breaths. Unreasonable?

"Because I don't do what you want me to do all the time?"

"Because you have duties to perform– and one of them is to marry Alexander."

"To give you the heir to your company that you so desperately want. But you have a child of your own. You could have made me your heir." Without looking at his face, I knew what he would say in response– that I was a woman. And for that reason alone, unfit to follow in his footsteps. "Make Alexander your successor. I couldn't care less. And why this wedding didn't happen is nobody's business but his and mine."

Obviously, he hadn't told them yet, so he certainly wouldn't tell them now. And if he did... I might be inclined to reveal my knowledge of his secrets as well, even though I had claimed not long ago that I would not do such a thing.

My father shook his head. Nothing I said was what he wanted to hear.

Still, I continued. "Maybe it's time to just forget about it. Let's deal with something else instead."

As if to signify his agreement, Lei let a finger travel further up, sliding briefly over my damp underwear. A flash of lightning shot through me. Wrong time. But it dawned on me what he'd been holding back for the past few weeks. Cutting the pretense out of our relationship gave him a kind of free pass to unleash the full range of his passion on me. He would probably roll over me, bury me and make sure I couldn't breathe. Until he grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the chaos that had transformed me into a whole new person.

"I wasn't going to call your bluff, but if you keep this up, I'm going to disinherit you."

"Matthew!" my mother protested. Probably because a not insignificant portion of the family fortune came from her.
