Denith shuddered. “When I find him, I am going to cut his fucking head off.” His thumb was rubbing the back of her hand.

“You can do that after I kick his nuts up into his throat.” She smiled. “I dream about making him curl into a ball. I wonder what shape his partner is in. I hope they are okay.”

Denith blinked. “Damn. Well, you have a good heart.”

“Well, I hope they are okay because I am going to kick his balls into low orbit. Their partner will have to deal without them for a while.”

Denith pulled her in close with the grip on her hand, and his kiss wasn’t polite or chaste. Her nifty, new, elongated body was definitely interested in the slide of his tongue and the squeeze of his hand around hers.

Teyval chuckled. “Denith, enough.”

Denith growled and held her tight as the kiss continued, and she tasted blackberries and lemon. She sighed and continued the kiss, but Byron made an agitated sound, so she created a barrier between her and Denith. He groaned and relaxed as he backed away.

She stroked his cheek. “You good?”

“Nearly better. How are you, precious?”

“The weight on my chest is fading. Nothing feels real. I feel like I stepped into one of my books, but I am not that good of a writer.”

Teyval snorted. “I have read some of your short stories. You are a very engaging writer.”

She looked at him, and he smiled.

“Sorry, Myrtle. No tail, I am afraid.”

She felt her face turn bright pink. “I don’t want tails, but it was a solid seller, so it paid my rent.”

Byron grinned. “Will you share your library, Turtle?”

“Maybe. Once that knowing look in Teyval’s eyes wears off.”

Teyval smiled. “I will lend you my copies.”

Keres spoke, and it was then that Turtle clued into the audience. Keres and her mates had been supervising. “We got the guesthouse ready. Now that we know you aren’t in danger of imminent death, you can get some sleep. You four can sleep and find balance.”

Keres took her by the hand and pulled her upright. “Come on, Myrtle. I have some nice bulky pyjamas for you.”

Myrtle chuckled. “Aw, talk dirty to me.”

Keres smiled. “You know they are right behind you, right?”

“Yup. I will eventually learn to watch my mouth.”

Denith murmured, “That’s our job.”

The other two chuckled.

Myrtle pinched the bridge of her nose. “This is going to take some getting used to.”

Keres smiled. “It always does. I had years to ease into the idea. They knew me in my worst moments and helped me rise again.”

“And what did you do for them?”

“I am a muse, a friend, lover, companion, and eventually breeding partner. We will be family, and they haven’t had family for a very long time.” Keres smiled. “Prepare for fussing and for them to attempt to keep one of them with you at all times.”

“As long as I get writing time, I am fine.”

“You may need to get a new writing routine, but they will be able to sense what you are feeling if you are really irritated.”
