She sat in her chair, and her stomach rumbled as they all settled down to eat. Teyval was on one side of her, and Denith was on the other. She looked at Denith, and he looked back. “Can I eat?”

“Omega eats first.”

Teyval murmured, “Unless we are eating in public. Then, we taste it for you.”

“No. That is how the queen’s alphas were taken out. Poisoned and stabbed.” Myrtle stood and started to load her plate.

“So, you saw it all?”

“Sure. It’s in the book. I got it all when I touched the cover. I had to peel plastic off first.”

Teyval sighed. “That is how she could touch it. I did wonder.”

“What? So, you can’t touch it?”

“Of course not. It was soaked in the blood of an omega that was not my own. Alphas can’t touch it, and I am surprised the beta survived it.”

Myrtle drummed her fingers on the table “That is why she needed Toros. She was trying to get enough Elite omega energy to work with the book. I mean, it has the different styles of Elite omega in there, so I get it. There are a lot of us, and it is interesting reading.”

She looked at her food and took a bite, which sent the others springing to action. Teyval asked, “So, you know the contents of the diary?”

“Yes. It downloaded into me like a flash drive.”

Byron asked, “How did the Elite get it on her?”

Myrtle looked at him. “If I was writing it? Tongs, plastic wrap, and packing tape.”

They stared at her. Byron asked, “Were there any packs like yours?”

“Two in the court. I also learned a little tidbit about the dark Elite.”

All four men paused. Teyval asked, “What did you learn?”

“You aren’t from around here, despite your claims.”

They looked at each other and shrugged. Byron smiled. “The ruse works with the current generation of Elite. They want to believe they will gain this amount of power one day. It’s cute.”

She stared at him. “They tortured me, denying me pain killers and medical intervention and watching my slow death. They are not cute if you aren’t up to fighting back. Fortunately, I am now in that position, so they are whiny little bastards.”

The men laughed.

Myrtle thought about the origins of the dark Elite, and she shrugged. She was going to put them in a book and watch folks freak out.

She wiggled her toes happily as she ate, and Denith leaned over to check, grinning as he came up. “So, that recipe goes in the book.”

She dealt with the cheese on her fork. “Book?”

“I thought I would write a family recipe book in case anything happens to any of us and so that any and all children know how to prep for Mother’s Day.”

Myrtle kept eating. “If you make me a mom, you buy me flowers or chocolate or an ice pack.”

Teyval chuckled. “You will have what you need.”

“Uh-huh. I will believe it when I see it.” She finished and then looked at what was left on the table. She refilled her plate and kept eating until she felt the need to unzip. Too bad that she was wearing sweats.

She settled in her chair and stifled a groan. Denith looked pleased with himself.

“Oh, don’t smirk. I would have eaten a boiled shoe after the day I have had.”
