“What do you do?”

“Writer of ridiculous stories.” She chuckled. “Works better than therapy.”

“Nice. I have dabbled myself.”

“I know. I have it in my TBR.” Myrtle chuckled. “My reading has fallen off in the last few years.”

Olivia laughed. “Life does that. So does writing.”

Her daughter chortled and then squealed. The half-sibling that Myrtle was carrying made an answering cry. Myrtle stroked the dark cheek, and the little girl in her arms cooed happily.

Olivia looked around and nodded to someone further down the yard. The woman excused herself from her conversation and greeted the children with a smile, taking one on each hip. Olivia smiled. “The nanny.”

“Oh. Right. That’s an option.” Myrtle stood and blinked at the spot where the warmth from the baby was fading.

Olivia smiled. “It is an option. Of course, while breastfeeding is going on, you are stuck every few hours, but after you ease into bottle feeding, things get smoother. I can even recommend a wireless pump you can just wear in your bra.”

“Well, there is no way that I am pregnant right now, so I will take all of the information that I can.”

Olivia grinned. “They are watching you like you are steak on two legs.”

“One of them is in rut, but I have managed to tamp that down.” She smiled. Myrtle laced her fingers together, and Olivia gasped.

“What?” Myrtle looked around.

“I love your nails! Where did you get them done?”

Myrtle looked at the genuine admiration as Olivia took her hand, and she broke out in peals of laughter. When she stilled, she said, “It was a team-building exercise. Teyval was the chair.”

Olivia looked at her nails and then over to the cloud of Myrtle’s pack talking to her pride. “Wow. That is some delicate work.”

Myrtle curled her toes and dug them into the grass. “Yes, it was. I have trust issues.”

“As do I, but my pride proved themselves trustworthy. They made me believe I could relax, and I did.”

“Well, one of them is the source of my distrust, and he made a misstep that endangered our entire pack. I am working on getting over it.” She shrugged.

“I thought the dark Elite got together easily with their omegas.”

“Yeah, well, in my case, the Elite tried to kill me via one of my destined mates. Very nearly did it, too, but my other destined mate called for help.”

“Geez. There are so many good stories out there for you Elite.”

“Start with Ruby’s story. Hers is astonishing.”

“Really?”

“Sure. We talked a bit when I got the book to write the screenplay. Her family is complicated, and her uncles are jerks.”

“Okay. I will ask her if she will let me write her biography. That is my favourite genre to write. Yours?”

“Normally, smutty fantasy, but with these guys around, I am sticking to stuff that is family-friendly. I don’t want to put my sex life into the books. The guys are already reading my backlist, which is creeping me out.”

They giggled, and Olivia looked at her seriously a moment later. “I think you would make a good pixie. She’s all closed up and learns to trust herself over time until, finally, she can return home triumphant with her troll and the lost magic.”

“I am not up for triumph.”

“No, but you will be. I think participating in the movie will help.”
