Lorik listened intently, his golden eyes reflecting the passion in my voice.

“Your originality… I fear the training might suppress it,” he commented, gently closing the sketchbook.

“But I need to learn, Lorik. There’s so much I don’t know,” I insisted, clasping my hands together.

He looked at me, his gaze soft yet firm. “Your art, Madison. It’s beautiful, just the way it is.”

In his words, I found a beacon of validation, a balm to my artist’s soul.

RURDRAX

As Madison left the room to freshen up, I was left alone with her sketchbook.

The moment I had laid my eyes on her drawings, I knew she possessed a rare talent.

I’ve always had a deep appreciation for art, the expression of thoughts and emotions through brush strokes and color.

Yet, her artwork was unlike anything I had ever encountered.

Her characters, an eccentric fusion of aliens and animals, were more than just drawings.

They wereembodimentsof distinct personalities, embodying raw emotion and conveying intricate stories.

I could see the spark of intuition in the Allurox’s eyes, the fiery determination of the Baldera.

It was as though her pencils danced on the pages, weaving an enchanting tapestry of stories and emotions.

Each sketch held a unique vitality, a life force that almost vibrated off the page.

I found myself lost in their gazes, tracing their sinewymuscles and feathered wings, absorbed by the intricate detail of every stroke.

A knock on the door interrupted my admiration.

I reluctantly closed the sketchbook, placing it back onto the table before moving to answer the door.

Standing there was Aznai, his stature rigid, his gaze steady. “The Hiikas are stabled and I’ve finished my meal,” he reported, his voice flat and emotionless, as always. “Is there anything else I can do for you, sir?”

“No,” I said. “Although…” I considered for a moment, glancing at the adjacent room’s door before returning to him. “Yes, there is. I’d like you to sleep in the room next door tonight,” I said, gesturing at Madison’s now vacant room.

His brows furrowed, an unusual show of confusion, but he didn’t question me.

It wasn’t his place nor his inclination to do so.

“And if you happen to receive some… uninvited guests in the middle of the night,” I added with a sinister smile, “let’s give them a little… surprise.”

A slow nod was his only response before he turned and walked away, heading towards his new sleeping quarters for the night.

As I shut the door, a sense of satisfaction washed over me.

The Katar brutes wouldn’t know what hit them if they dared to return — either to Madison’s old room or this one.

My room was now a sanctuary, and I had every intention to protect it for Madison and myself.

I found myself drawn to her talent, her passion, and her determination.

In our short encounter, she had already painted an intriguing picture in my mind, and I found myself lookingforward to seeing what other masterpieces she had hidden in her sketchbook.
