Once at the hole, I carefully began the process of squeezing through.

The metal surrounding the hole was cold and slightly sharp, and I winced as it grazed my skin.

But I pushed on, the promise of freedom spurring me forward.

From below, I could hear Lorik murmuring words of encouragement. “You’ve got this, Madison. Just a little more.”

The last push was the hardest.

I felt the restrictive pinch of the hole against my body, but with one final effort bolstered by Lorik’s unwavering support, I managed to pull myself through.

I emerged on the outside, feeling a rush of relief.

The vast expanse of the night’s opening act greeted me, the twinkling lights painting a breathtaking canvas.

The ground beneath me was rough and uneven, but it was a welcome sensation after the confines of the attic.

Taking a moment to steady myself, I then sought out a way to aid Lorik’s escape.

But for now, the immediate threat was behind us.

The risk had been great, but the promise of freedom was worth every perilous moment.

As I worked to ensure our complete escape, the depth of our bond became even more apparent.

Together, there was no challenge too great, no danger too dire.

At that moment, amidst the stars and the alien world around us, I knew that our journey had only just begun.

The air outsidewas different from the stifling atmosphereof the attic.

It was refreshing, filled with the faint aroma of the plants surrounding the house.

I could hear distant night-time creatures singing their odd symphonies, unlike anything I’d ever heard on Earth.

However, the roof wasn’t as accommodating as I had hoped.

Years of neglect had layered it with dirt, grime, and moss, making it slick underfoot.

My shoes hardly found any traction on the slimy surface, and I regretted not having anything more suitable for this impromptu mission.

Every step felt like a gamble.

I took a moment to gather my bearings.

I could feel the gentle slope of the roof beneath me, the rough texture of weathered tiles pressing against my palms.

The tiles felt cold and fragile, and as I moved, some of them shifted beneath me.

Slowly and carefully, I began my descent to where I believed the edge of the attic would be.

But my caution didn’t prevent the inevitable.

One misstep, one unsecured tile, and I found myself skidding, the world tilting precariously.

Panic surged as I envisioned a painful plummet to the ground below.

My heart raced, echoing in my ears louder than any of the nocturnal critters.
