It didn’t sound like a shuttle; it was too organic, too raw.

As the sound got closer, I squinted through the fog, my pulse pounding in my ears.

And then emerging like a specter from the thick haze.

It was tall — like a figure riding a creature.

My heart pounded in my chest, relief and apprehension intertwining.

Could it be a local nomad?

Or something less benign?

As I waited for the figure to come closer, my hand strayed to the compact stun gun in my pack, the cool metal a reassurance against the unknown.

But as the figure came into clearer view, the fog swirling around him in an ethereal dance, my breath hitched in my throat.

The finger of dust that whirled about him made him vanish as if he hadn’t been there at all.

My hopes and my smile faded.

I peered around to see if I could find him again… but he wasn’t there.

In truth, he was probablyneverthere.

I chose a random direction and began to walk.

As the foggradually swirled thinner around me, unveiling the barren landscape of Enchor’s Heart, I felt a renewed sense of determination swell within my chest.

I had chosen this path, chosen to leave behind my old life to carve out a new existence in Aguvvel, and I was not about to turn back now.

Standing there amidst the desolate expanse of the desert, I thought about what I had left behind.

The comfortable life, the constant buzz of my home city, and, yes, the familiar faces.

It was the taste of liberation from a world that had become too stifling, a world where I was always expected to play a certain part.

The shifting sands beneath my feet felt coarse yet oddly comforting.

Each grain was a reminder of my resolve, of the path I had chosen to tread.

I shuffled my boots, feeling the grit scrape against the thick soles.

Even this felt invigorating, a testament to the freedom I now held.

The fog, ever capricious, shifted its direction, its semi-transparent tendrils sweeping the desert landscape in a haunting dance.

Its chilled touch prickled against my exposed skin, leaving goosebumps in its wake.

The cold, however, was a welcome distraction, a tangible sign of my new life’s challenges.

I hugged my arms to my body in an attempt to ward off the creeping chill that cut through my gear.

The distant hum of the desert wind was my onlycompanion, a soft serenade that felt both eerie and calming.

Every now and then, a shrill cry of some unknown creature of the deep fog would pierce the silence, a stark reminder of my solitude.

My senses seemed heightened, each whiff of the crisp air filled my nostrils.
