“Oh, it’s nothing particularly dangerous,” the little leader said. “It’s actually very simple. You see, the Governor possesses somethingveryvaluable, something friends of ours would pay veryhandsomelyfor. This item is known as a Blue Orb and glows with an intense blue light. What its true purpose is is of no consequence to you. Do you know the one I’m talking about? Nod or shake your head.”

I shook my head.

The little leader leaned in close and appraised my expression.

He made atsknoise with his tongue. Then he went on:

“We’ve been following you because you have access to the Governor where many others do not. On Sleii’s arm, you will never be suspected. You can pocket the Blue Orb without anyone noticing. And I’m sure Sleii wouldn’t be very pleased with your latest squeeze in this hotel room, would he?”

That was one thing he didn’t know about, evidently — that Sleii had dropped me and left me for someone else.

I wanted to tell him I was of no use to him, that he ought to find someone else…

But then what did they do withuselessthings?

These creatures did not look like the merciful type.

No, I thought. Better to remain quiet.

Better for them to think they knew what was going on.

“We wish for you to steal it for us,” the little leader said. “Once you have it, you will call me on this communication number.”

He reached for my wrist and I pulled it away from him.

He tutted. “Now, now. There is no need for that.”

He input contact details and left the name box with “?”

“Once you have it, call me. I’ll tell you where you willdrop it off. Then you will be free to go and you will never see us again.”

Never again?

I could do thatmyself!

I would run to the Governor and tell him everything!

With any luck, they’ll be caught and locked up before the sun sets!

The little leader reached into his pocket and took out another communication device — evidently, he hadmanyof them.

“I know you’ll be receptive to our demands,” he said, raising his device so I could see it.

He pressed a button and a holo-image popped up that made the blood freeze in my veins.

I struggled against my captor’s arms but he might as well have been made from iron.

Tears formed in my eyes but did not yet dribble down my cheeks.

The holo-image depicted a face… a face I knew better even than my own.

The one I cared for most in the entire galaxy.

My sister.

How did this scumbag have an image of my sister?

The little leader grinned.
