She’s here!

She carried a basket hooped over her arm and moved from one desk to another.

She gazed up and peered back through the glass at me.

What was she doing here?

Was something wrong?

Was there some emergency she needed my help with?

“Governor? Shall I continue?”

I blinked, snapping to attention to the worker addressing me.

He stood at the front wall giving a holo-graphic presentation.

After I had announced plans to open a new conference center my team had been taken by surprise.

After all, we hadn’t discussed the use of that land in that way before but now they were tasked with designing it and preparing to build it.

The details were dry and boring, but necessary.

I wasn’t going to do anyone any favors by losing my focus.

And I was always going to lose it with Layla in the same building.

“Let’s continue this another time,” I said.

The worker nodded, ended the presentation, and the lights came back up.

Along with his two assistants, he bustled out of the meeting room.

Layla saw them coming and hastily approached them.

She grinned that stunning smile of hers and extended the basket toward them.

One assistant shook his head and made some comment before returning to his desk but the other two remained.

They reached into her basket and found items they wanted to purchase.

They handed over the credits for them.

My eyes were on her.

Layla.

I was grateful I didn’t have to stand up.

There was no way I could address her or anyone else right now.

If they were sitting down, I would end up poking them in the eye!

Layla smiled her thanks as the workers took their purchases and returned to their desks.

Layla checked over her shoulders before shoving the meeting room door open.

I didn’t speak until the door clicked shut.
