I hugged her closer and wished lunch would last forever.

Already, I couldn’t wait to see her again.

Upon returning to the office,I called ahead to the palace and informed them I would be entertaining a single guest for the evening.

I hadn’t been born into a rich family and so being able to command servants to do my bidding was something I’d had to get used to.

But now that I had it, I never wanted to lose it!

I never had to cook, clean, go shopping, or do any of the other household tasks that “normal” people spent their time doing.

Apparently, the Governor’s time was so valuable he couldn’t do those things himself.

It was untrue, of course, but they were perks of the job and so I utilized them.

After work, I returned home immediately, took a shower, and dressed in comfortable clothes.

I was relieved I wouldn’t have to go through the whole traditional Chi dating ritual process.

I could just relax and be myself.

I felt more comfortable in my regular clothes — a traditional Chi loincloth with a silk shirt I left unbuttoned.

Traditionally, our ancestors would never have worn shirts but I had since learned to enjoy them.

When Layla arrived and the security team reached for her bag to check it, I waved them off and vouched for her myself. “She’s of no danger to me.”

Except perhaps in the bedroom.

I kissed her on the cheek — a nice way to greet someone, I thought, as per the French tradition that I had learned from Mila.

Initially, I felt very down and rejected by Mila and her decision to not marry me and take off with one of my employees — okay, so maybe Krena’s deception still angered me! — but now that I had Layla on my arm, the whole thing seemed like a tedious mistake.

It never should have happened.

Although it was a nice idea for Sleii to match me up with someone, it was not right for us to force Mila to marry someone she did not even know.

No wonder she didn’t want to marry me!

I doubted she would have wanted to marry anyone she did not know.

Little did Sleii know he had the solution to my perfect partner on his arm the entire time!

Little did weallknow…

I extended my elbow to her in the human fashion and she took it.

She was dressed in a gorgeous emerald green dress with a short train dragging behind.

I felt a little underdressed now that she had arrived!

But the truth was, no matter what she wore, I wouldalwaysfeel that way.

She wore a glittering necklace and matching earrings, her hair done up in a style that must have taken hours.

She wasstunning.

It seemed so effortless for her.
