I undressed, jumped in the shower, and began to think through what I was going to wear and what the Governor might like.

We were going to be dining at the palace, which was his home, so it wasn’t really a formal event.

We would have a good time, eat dinner, enjoy some nice conversation, and then I would sleep over.

Then, in the middle of the night, I would creep downstairs, steal the orb, and disappear into the night.

I would call the number the little leader had given me, hand over the orb, and never have to see or deal with those vermin ever again.

But the little leader evidently had other plans for, as I emerged from my bathroom shower wrapped in my soft and usually very comforting gown and my hair done up in a towel, I found a figure hunched over my small desk.

I yelped, hopping back on my feet.

I had no idea how the little leader had gotten in there but he clearly knew where I lived by following my movements closely.

“Sorry for the interruption,” he said as if this were his home and not mine. “I didn’t mean to startle you.”

If he didn’t mean to startle me he wouldn’t have snuck in!

He would have knocked on the door like a normal person.

“It’s a very nice place you have here,” he said, turning in the swivel chair toward the large windows that looked out on Main Street. “I’m surprised someone of your… background can afford such a place.”

“What are you doing here?” I snapped.

“I’m here to remind you of our little discussion last night. I wouldn’t want you to think it was a dream.”

More like a nightmare!

He shoved himself up onto his feet and straightened his jacket.

He approached with a broad grin on his face; the same sadistic grin he’d given me when he threatened my family.

“Of course I remember,” I said with a sniff.

He nodded. “Good. I would hate for it to… slip your mind.”

He crossed the distance between us and stood far too close for my liking.

“That robe looks very comfortable,” he said. “May I?”

Without waiting for me to respond, he reached out and ran his fingertips over the fabric.

I had never felt so vulnerable in my entire life.

Despite his diminutive size (for a Chi), he was still far stronger than me.

He slid a finger beneath the robe.

I shuffled backward and he glared at me, forcing me to stand stock still.

He slipped his finger underneath the collar and grazed the flesh of my breast.

“You know,” he said. “I’ve always wondered what it would be like to lie with an Elinz'ang. Is it really as divine as they say?”

My stomach fell between my feet and my insides turned to water.

I didn’t want him anywhere near me, didn’t want him to touch me, or evenlookat me.
