His name was Joruch.

He bent over the cockpit control desk stabbing at buttons that, to me, looked haphazard and random.

The other two surviving members of the Governor’s crack team were Klem and Azzak.

The other strange thing about the communicator on my wrist was the fact there was no holographic visage of the person I was calling.

Each time the tone clicked over to another line, the image flickered but the words in blazing red neon holographic lights were the same:

NO HOLO-IMAGE AVAILABLE.

I had grown so used to seeing someone’s face on the other end that it felt very strange… and very dangerous.

When the line shifted once more to yet another number, and the bearded squad member threw up his hands in agitation, I knew there would be little hope of locking onto the little leader’s true location now.

That had been the Governor’s original plan.

He never wanted to put me in danger’s way but now there was no other way but for me to go and meet the little leader in person.

“Is there any way to block my holo-image?” I asked quickly.

The Governor shook his head. “If we did, he would grow suspicious. We don’t need that right now.”

I nodded although I didn’t much like the idea of the little leader being able to see me but not the other way around.

What if I gave something away?

What if my fear shone through and he knew something was wrong?

I was not meant to have told anyone, after all.

Least of all the Governor, who had a contingent of Space Marine friends to call upon!

They might be a little haggard and slow, not quite in their prime years, but right then, they were each one of them my hero.

I had needed help but I was grateful they had answered the call.

I was glad I was no longer alone.

Suddenly, the line clicked and although it sounded similar to the previous clicks, I instantly recognized it as being different from all the others.

It was deeper, more ‘solid’ somehow.

I perked up, and my eyes instantly shot toward the Governor, who motioned toward my communicator.

Yeah, right!I thought.I’m supposed to be on my own!

If anyone else was here to hear the call, that meant I had broken his rule of not letting anyone else in on it.

The ringing ended but I couldn’t hear anyone on the other end.

With no holo-image, it was impossible to know if the little leader had picked up or if it had just been cut off.

It took every ounce of my self-control not to look in the Governor’s direction for assistance.

“Hello?” I said, my voice trembling. “Are you there? I have it. I have the Orb.”

I raised it up beside my face and its soft blue light illuminated my cheek.
