We chased after it and each time it began to fade, I scraped the blade again.

Further and further we ran until, finally, I spied the soft yellow glow of a rectangular door.

I didn’t like to let the little rabbit go as it meant I had to be alone with the little leader again but I had no other choice.

The little leader took the blade and Orb from me, although I was loath to give up the former.

He knocked on the door and heavy footsteps approached.

The figure threw the door open, bathing us in light.

I recognized the figure immediately.

It was the larger henchman that I had successfully downed in the hotel room with the sick stick.

Boy, did I wish I had that on me now!

He eyed me uncertainly before stepping aside to let the little leader through.

Inside was a large room, although we only occupied a small part of it.

Large sheets had been erected around us, catching the light and holding it in.

The smaller henchman with the sharp eyes stood behind a smaller Chi with a nervous demeanor and a hesitant look in his eye.

He sat at a small table with mismatched chairs around it.

He looked up at me with the most pitiful expression I thought I had ever seen.

I was petrified to be there but this guy… I didn’t even have awordto describe how he looked.

I turned to look back the way I had come.

The pitch-black tunnel didn’t seem so bad now.

The big henchman, as if sensing my intentions, shut the door behind me and stood in front of it.

Well, I thought, that ruled that way out.

The little leader handed the Orb to the small Chi, whose hands were shaking so bad the little leader pulled the Orb back from him.

“Now,” he said, “if you drop this and it breaks, it won’t just be your body that gets shattered alongside it. Understand?”

The little Chi whimpered before taking it in both hands and holding it, at all times, above the tabletop.

Even if he dropped it, it wouldn’t break from that distance.

He turned the Orb over in his hands — and it was then I noticed they were cuffed together with a thick chain — and I counted my lucky stars I at least had the use of my hands and feet.

Maybe they underestimated me.

I knew I couldn’t overpower them but I knew I was fast enough to escape their clutches.

I appraised the blanket walls on each side, looking for where I might be able to attack and hurl myself through it.

Or a gap maybe, where two sheets met…

“I-It’s g-genuine,” the fearful Chi said.
