“You don't have to tell me,” I sighed and got to my feet, ready to leave. “I'm just worried about you, that's all.”

She grabbed my arm but didn't look at my face. I sat down.

“You don't have to force yourself either,” I insisted.

“I'm not a good boss,” she said.

I didn't say anything.

“I've run hospitals for almost six years, and I'm yet to understand what it means to be a good leader,” she continued. “I mean whatever I say goes. I know that I have done good in the lives of patients, but I've yet to do good in the lives of my staff.”

“I don't think that's the case,” I remarked.

“I know but…you just came along and all of a sudden they all love you,” she continued. “And yet, I felt insecure, thinking you would take my position, when all you've been trying to do is help me.”

I felt a sharp pain of guilt. I wasn't truly trying to help her. I was just going along with my original plan.

“I should have been thanking you instead,” she continued, adding more to my guilt.

“You really don't have to thank me,” I said. “That's what my job is supposed to be.”

“And my job as a leader is to raise other leaders,” she added. “All I do is just make a fuss about how strong I am. Or how many men I can be able to control. Who do I think I am? My mom? I can't believe I still look up to her.”

“What's the matter with your mom?” I asked.

It was my first time hearing her talk about her family members.

“What isn’t the matter with her?” she scoffed.

“I'll take it that you don't have good parents,” I answered.

I guess in that regard, we could both relate.

“Why did you start looking up to your mum in the first place?” I asked.

She didn't answer, “I'm sorry.”

“It's fine,” I said. “At least you've let out what was on your mind. Are you still worried that I would insubordinate you?”

“Yes," she answered without hesitation. “This is the first time I have to deal with a staff member who doesn't fear me and is not willing to follow my instructions. So, yes, I'm still worried about trusting you.”

“That has to be the most wonderful thing you said about me,” I said with a smile.

“I wasn't praising you, idiot,” she uttered and frowned.

“I don't think you should be using aggressive words like that,” I advised.

“You're not my boss,” she reminded me.

“At least when I'm on duty,” I said as I placed my hand around her neck.

She raised her head, giving me a proper view and access to her neck. I tightened my grip and squeezed. She didn't struggle, only closing her eyes to control the rate at which her body demanded air. I let her go and she exhaled sharply.

“Kiss me,” she commanded, as she closed her eyes.

I wanted to make a quip but decided it wasn't time for that. I obeyed her request, kissing her lips deeply. It was my first time. Her lips are so soft, and I felt like I could melt right into her. I pulled away and her eyes were still closed.

She slowly opened them and settled her eyes on me.
