Bruce

“Remind me again, why am I here?” Mark asked.

“Tabitha and I are going out; I don't know what to wear,” I replied.

He stared at my bed with the clothes scattered across.

“You… don't know what to wear?” Mark asked. “Haven't you been on a date before?”

“I'm a man dedicated to academics,” I answered proudly.

“Jesus Christ, you're a dork.” He rubbed this temple in frustration.

“Just help me out; I'll give you a bonus,” I pleaded.

“Loafers, denim, a dress shirt neatly folded up to your elbows. Leave three buttons open and wear a tank top underneath, Rolex on the left, ring on the right, some shades, and you're ready to go,” he replied in a heartbeat.

“Wow. I was expecting you to say you don't need the money and you just wanted to help your best friend out,” I said. “I mean, your family is wealthy. What do you even need the money for?”

“Tut tut tut.” He waved a finger. “There's no such thing as too much money.”

“Now, let's see what we can do,” he said.

It was a strange feeling. I was getting excited about having a date to look forward to.

Tabitha

Bruce texted me that he was here. I started feeling nervous.

“God, I look like a Barbie doll,” I said as I inspected myself in my pocket mirror, then switched to my selfie camera for a better view.

The earrings had been gifted to me by my sister. My hair looked good, and the peach press on nails felt too long. I could have taken them off, but…

“I have a feeling you're thinking of taking them off,” Helena said, reading my mind.

“You don't have to be outside, too,” I told her.

“What? Can't I at least see what kind of man has stolen your heart?” she asked.

“My heart isn't completely stolen,” I reminded her.

“But you said you were in love last night,” she reminded me.

“You did not just say that aloud.” I frowned as I looked around us.

“Sis, it's Maryland; they don't care,” she said. “Now, where is… Oh, that's him, right?”

I looked in the direction she was motioning to. I saw Bruce, looking as impeccably handsome as ever. He was with Mark from yesterday.

“Is that…” Helena squinted to see.

Bruce noticed me and started approaching, along with Mark.

“Don’t forget to compliment him,” Helena said.

“Me? Why do I have to?” I whispered.

“Because you're being feminine right now and not an alpha lady. He compliments first, and then you follow,” she responded.
