As I was done narrating my story, my friend only looked at me and shook his head in pity.

“This is why I said, this was a bad idea,” he said. “You claimed it was going to help the hospital and maybe protect her in the process. But you ended up doing more harm than good.”

“I already know all that. I did the recap, you don't have to do a third one,” I said and frowned.

“Of course, you would get angry at me,” he said and rolled his eyes. “From what I saw that day, she was actually a good woman.”

“Believe me, she's more than that. She's everything,” I explained. “I can't believe I lost her.”

“Unfortunately, that's the reality you have to deal with,” he said. “Can you imagine how she must feel right now?”

“She might have already cut off every feeling she has for me.”

“I wouldn't be so sure about that,” he said. “If it was genuine love, then she would be finding the same problems you were having right now happening to her.”

That was his own way of cheering me up. I knew for a fact that every feeling she had for me had died the moment I had stepped out of the office.

“Should I have fired him?” I asked myself.

When he had come to submit his resignation letter, I refused to look at him because I knew I would change my mind immediately. I missed him. I wanted to forgive him for what he did, but I felt showing mercy would send the wrong message. I was trying to go back to my alpha woman ways.

“You don't have any reason to feel bad about anything,” Shawn said as he sat down.

“When did I let you into my office?” I asked, but I wasn't angry. It was difficult to keep any emotion after Bruce had left.

“You didn't. I kept calling for you and you didn't respond so I just let myself in,” he explained. “I'm sorry for disturbing you.”

“What do you want?” I asked as I picked up Bruce's resignation letter. I couldn't open it.

“The organization that Bruce was working for is no doubt linked to the man that your mother had killed,” he explained. “With the death of their member and the absence of their spy, they will begin their move, shortly.”

“And?”

“I know you think I don't have your best interest at heart. But I really do,” he explained, “if we had your mother's backing, and you collaborated with me, they can do nothing to touch us.”

“How does this affect you?”

“Have you forgotten I was the one who exposed Bruce?” he asked. “I’m in as much danger as you are.”

He had a point. If Bruce was really involved with such a dangerous organization, there was a chance that he would tell them who had exposed him. Maybe, I should have had Bruce arrested instead.

“I can see your point,” I said.

“I'm glad you understand. I will speak to my lawyers and you call yours,” he said. “We can get this partnership over with before the end of the month. You can appoint members of the board, and I would appoint people I trust as well.”

“I didn't say I was going to partner with you immediately,” I explained. “I'm sorry but you would have to give me more time. I almost lost my position here.”

“I know your position is important,” he continued. “But your life is more important to me. Make me a major shareholder and you don't have to live in fear anymore. I promise I'll keep you safe and protect you.”

“Just let me think about it, okay?” I requested, hoping he would leave me alone.

“I trust you Tabitha, you will make the right choice. You always do,” he said as he got up to leave. “When should I expect a response from you?”

“Maybe, when I'm ready to leave for Zurich,” I answered.

That was one problem settled for now. There was another problem.
