“I'm here,” I responded. “What seems to be the problem?”

“It's nothing serious. How would you describe Shawn in terms of personality?” he asked.

It was a strange question, especially since I was thinking about Shawn just a few moments ago.

“He's a carefree person. Loves to keep himself out of trouble.” I was describing what I remembered in medical school. “This is past information. I have no idea what his personality is now.”

“I see,” he said.

“What is the matter?” I asked. “Did something happen?”

“He has been in talks with Tabitha to become a major shareholder,” he responded. “I have no idea what this organization you worked for was after, but he promised to offer protection. I was just a little worried, that's all. Tabitha has been unable to communicate properly. I kept to myself during most of this period, so I don't know how to ask her; that's why I came to you.”

“I'm sorry that my knowledge bank is too low,” I said.

“It's fine. Is everything going okay over there?”

“I'm doing my best,” I insisted. It didn't seem like it, but it was the truth.

“Keep doing that,” he encouraged before hanging up.

I turned my attention to Mark, “something is not right.”

Tabitha

“So you're pregnant?” Olivia asked.

She was my older brother’s girlfriend and was still pregnant at the time.

“Don't tell Lucas,” I warned her.

“I promise you, I won't,” she assured me. “I'm just surprised that you, of all persons, would be pregnant before marriage.”

“Well, it happens to the best of us,” I said as I poked her belly.

“Now tell me what to do,” I pleaded.

“Why are you asking me? You're the gynecologist here. I'm just a secretary,” she reminded me.

“I called you here because I assumed you would be able to have experience dealing with things like this,” I said, pointing at my stomach. “It's a nightmare. I'm not even three months pregnant, and I already can't hold my pee. I'm spitting like a camel, throwing up almost every morning. My breasts feel sore and tender.”

“I wish I knew how to make those things disappear,” she sighed. “But unfortunately, I do not have any idea of what to do. If I did, I would most likely apply them to myself.”

“I understand, sister,” I sighed.

“Who is the father, though?” she asked. “Wait, let me guess, it's that handsome man you were with when you caught me and Lucas kissing?”

“Bruce.”

“That's his name? Sounds so masculine and macho,” she teased.

“His name is also Philbert. He's nothing but a big liar and heartbreaker.” I complained. “Great, now my pregnancy is affecting my emotions as well.”

“I don't think that was your pregnancy, Tabitha,” she laughed. “But I understand what you're going through right now. Men can be so frustrating.”

“I mean, you're dating my brother so that I can take your word for it,” I said.

“It's not all bad. He's actually very sweet,” she said while blushing. “I don't know what Bruce did to hurt you, but for what it's worth, I believe you're going to be a good mom - with or without Bruce.
