Chapter twenty-five

Pushing a Mouse to the Wall

Tabitha

After three hours of love making, I was finally able to forgive Bruce. I wasn't going to tell him about the baby just yet. He told me about Shawn and his suspicions, and to be honest, it made a lot of sense. Shawn was in too much of a hurry to get me to allow him to become a major shareholder. Plus, another mistake I was about to make was not run another background check.

He kept claiming he would offer protection, but I never asked him who would be providing it. After Bruce had narrated his thoughts, I couldn't help but feel the man I was in love with had been used as a pawn.

I understood why he did what he had done in the first place; honestly, I guess I could understand his jealousy a bit. But we had to work together to stop Shawn. We had no idea how big the organization was; only Shawn knew the answer.

Hopefully.

“So, I'll have to call off the shareholder deal with him,” I said to Bruce.

“While I'm in support of that I don't believe you should do it alone,” Bruce advised. “I will come with you.”

“You don't have to. I'll be fine.”

“Tabitha, I said that I was coming with you, and it was final. You will not argue you will only agree,” he instructed. I couldn't help but obey.

“I'm sorry for not listening,” I apologized.

“Look I know you are a strong and independent woman,” he said as he held my shoulder and pulled me into him for a hug. “But I would like it if you would depend on me a little.”

“I understand,” I said with a smile.

It was nice to have him tell me what to do. Having someone in charge of me wasn't so bad after all.

We made our way to the hotel, where Shawn and I were staying. Bruce was very much on guard. I suppressed the urge to laugh whenever he would look around if we were being watched. He really meant to fulfill his role to protect, and I was enjoying every second of it.

We got to Shawn's hotel room. I knocked on the door. “Shawn? It's me. We need to talk.”

“Pardon me I'll be right there in a second,” he said then opened the door. “I was practicing my signature for when you came back to sign.”

The excited look on his face disappeared instantly the moment he saw Bruce.

“What is he doing here?” Shawn asked.

“We ran into each other after the event,” I explained. “I wanted him to follow me here.”

“But he has betrayed you. I'm sure he's just here to do the same thing again,” he reminded me.

“Even at that I still want him here,” I said. “You have to calm down or else.”

Shawn didn't like the fact that I had brought someone, especially Bruce, to where his webs were.

“You have a lot of explanation to do as well,” Bruce added. “What is your relationship with the organization, and why do they want your partnership with Tabitha?”

Shawn ignored the questions and focused on me. “Tabitha, it's not too late to make the right decision. I've told you this before. Partner with me and you wouldn't have to worry about anything again.”

“I don't even know who your source is,” I said. “I'm not going to work with you anymore, Shawn. You can't be a shareholder in my company if you keep hiding things like this.”

“You ungrateful little…” Shawn started to curse as he pulled out a gun and pointed it at me. “Why won't you listen? Why don't you ever listen to me?”

Before I could realize what was happening, Bruce had placed himself between the gun and my body. The was a loud bang. I noticed Bruce shake, like he had been hit. Despite the bullet wound, Bruce was able to tackle Shawn and brought him to the ground.
