As she heard my voice, the drowsiness left her eyes.

“Bruce!” she yelled as she embraced me.

I expected the place I was shot, to hurt but I only felt a sharp sting.

“Does it hurt?” she asked as she pulled away.

“How long have I been asleep?” I asked.

“A week,” she replied, then hit my thigh. “After Isaac was able to stabilize you, you refused to wake up. Don't scare me like that.”

I was still finding it difficult to get used to this feminine side of hers.

“What?” she asked.

“No, I'm just trying to get used to the feminine side of you,” I laughed.

“I told you I'm always feminine,” she insisted.

“I know, my little princess,” I said as I stroked her chin, and she bit her lower lip. I could see her wagging her invisible tail.

“What happened to Shawn?” I asked.

“He refused to talk, so I handed him over to someone who would help us make him speak,” she answered.

“Did he speak?” I asked.

“Yes. He gave some locations, but unfortunately, he doesn't know who the head of the organization is.

Mom handed him over to the police along with every information she found,” she responded. “Honestly, I'm surprised that she's going about it the easy way. Either that or she's planning to have them killed while in prison.”

I stared at her in disbelief as she narrated the evil her mother was capable of.

“Is there a problem?” she asked.

“I just realized that you would have been able to handle things on your own if I was just completely honest with you from the beginning,” I said. “I'm sorry that all of this happened.”

“I'm just glad you're okay, Bruce,” she said as she squeezed my hand. “There was no way you were going to die and leave me as a single mother.”

“But you'd have to be pregnant for that to be possible,” I teased.

She didn't laugh or say anything in response.

I looked at her, “Are you serious? You're pregnant?”

“Yes,” she laughed.

“Oh my goodness,” I laughed as well, then I remembered what happened to Brian. “What is your genotype?”

“I'm AA,” she answered. “There's nothing to worry about in that regard.”

“I'm going to be a dad,” I laughed. “I'm really going to be a dad. Fuck, I'm scared.”

“You're telling me? I just recalled all the times I had to help deliver babies and know I'll be the one needing the help in eight months,” she remarked. “I just hope everything will be okay.”

“I'll be with you all the way,’” I promised her.

“You better be,” she said.
