“Yes. So I can tour you around better.”

There was no hint of flirting, only sincerity. It was a slap to the face, reminding me that while I might have developed some kind of… attraction, it was one-sided. I blinked when he straightened and waited—not for me to flirt, but for a response because he was still just being friendly and it was all my imagination. Embarrassed, I cleared my throat.

“Oh. I think I got the gist of the layout and what you guys do here. But applying it is different and I might need time. I was an assistant in corporate and did mostly paperwork errands, scheduling, and organizing.”

“Wonderful. You can apply those here, too.”

“I’ll do my best. I hope you’re patient with me.”

His eyes twinkled. “Sophie, I’m the most patient man around here.”

I shouldn’t be reacting like this over the way he talked, but there was just something so compelling about his openness. I liked it as much as I liked Matthew’s kindness and warmth.

“That’s good. I could use patience in my life.”

He studied me, trying to figure that out. But he was respectful enough not to pry, instead returning to the topic we were on.

“Now, tell me what’s up. Did something happen today to keep you preoccupied, Sophie?”

I didn’t want to talk about my past relationship yet. Then I remembered another thing that happened today and gasped.

“Oh, God. I almost forgot.”

“Forgot what?”

A vision of the showering, naked man and those gray eyes floated in.

“I might have embarrassed your guest. Or angered him.”

“Guest?”

“Yes.” When he waited for more, I gestured. “He was having a shower and didn’t appreciate my presence.”

Sebastian’s brows rose and… was that a smirk?

“So you walked in on this guest while he was showering?”

“Accidentally,” I clarified. “And I got yelled at to get out. I swear I didn’t see anything.”

Not entirely the truth, but he didn’t need to know that I saw the guy’s happy trail and almost saw the guy’s—

Stop thinking about it.

“Can you describe this guest for me?”

That was definitely a smirk on Sebastian’s lips, turning more mischievous by the second. I puzzled over it before shrugging.

“He was tall. Tattoos all over. Muscles for days. He scowled a lot, though that might have more to do with the situation than him being a grump.”

“Hmm.” Sebastian now looked positively gleeful. “That must have been an eyesore so early in the morning.”

I wasn’t about to admit that it wasn’t, not when the sight was rather… mesmerizing. My cheeks turned hot and I shook my head.

“I didn’t really notice. Mostly it was just all-around embarrassing. He must think I saw his pecker or something.”

“Did you?”

“Nope. But I should apologize and clear things up.”
