“What? Five kids—no way,” she mumbled into her pillow.

Sitting on the edge of her bed, he continued, “Do you remember declaring your undying love for me?” Rubbing her arm, playfulness mingled with an undercurrent of seriousness in his tone.

“Um, no…no, I mean…”

“Because you didn’t.” He touched her chin, his index finger running along her jawbone. “But you did say you wanted to fuck me over and over”—he smiled—“and I’m right there with you, but only when you’re conscious.”

She sat up. “Jake, I’m glad nothing happened. I’m so horny for you, but I do want it to be right, I mean the first time as…”boyfriend and girlfriend…that seemed so foreign to her, it was like being cast in a role you couldn’t relate to, one you had to research so you could play the part well.

“Huh? Like romantic shit?” He ran his fingers through his hair. “Like candles and rose petals, that kind of stuff?”

Her fingers squeezed the sides of her forehead, the headache lingering at the edges of her temples. “Didn’t think of that, but yes, romantic…since this is the first time for us as a real relationship.”

“Not me. I thoughtthatthe first time we were together, thought it was realthen,” he said, trying to sound unaffected.

“I know, I know, but…”

“You used me for sex,” he emphasized, cocking an eyebrow.

“We went through this, yes, but it wasn’t fake, either. I just... I want this to be real, like a real relationship, like the whole boyfriend/girlfriend thing. So I guess I want the first time—knowingthat—to be memorable,” she explained, reaching for her coffee.

Both his eyebrows arched. “Oh, it will be memorable, probably the shortest sex scene in history. I might not even make it as long as my first time, which was pathetic.”

“I don’t care.” She touched his jean-covered thigh. “I wanna make love, not fuck.”

“Really? You? We’ve tried that…you don’t have a patient bone…”

“I’ll try, promise.” Her hand stretched out. “Can you hand me the aspirin?”

He put two aspirin in her hand and gave her the water. “Not making any promises on performance from this end, but the second time…maybe the third time, I’ll get there.”

Her head dropped back on her pillow. “Not sure I’ll make that flight today.”

“What time is it?”

“Three-thirty. I feel so yucky, though. Not sure how I’m going to get on a plane this hung over.”

“You’ll make it. I’ll help you get packed. Delilah’s bringing soup over. Let’s get some food in you…”

“No, I can’t,” she whined, rolling onto her stomach, burying her head in the pillow.

“You have to try, Sweets,” he coaxed, his hand on her upper back, just below the top of the comforter, rubbing her shoulder.

“Feels so good,” she mewled. “Mm…so good.” Jake put his coffee down on the bedside table, then slid the comforter down, using both hands to knead the muscles in her back. He wanted to do so much more, watching the way she stretched and sighed under his touch.

Leaning down, he softly traced her spine with his mouth, a trail of kisses down her back until his mouth reached the top of her black lace boy shorts. “I better stop,” he whispered. “I’ll get your robe. Delilah will be here in a few minutes.”

“Oh, wish you didn’t have to stop,” she said into her pillow, her crotch buzzing with anticipation.

Standing, he took a step back from the bed. “Me either, but let’s wait for thatspecialthing.”

“Fuck that,” she screamed into her pillow.

He laughed. “I swear…no patience.”

Twenty minutes later, Delilah’s hands were on her hips. “Eat it. It will help get your electrolytes back in balance,” she instructed. “I know it’s the demand of your profession, but you can’t do this to your body. I’m giving you two diuretics as well, so drink lots of water. Then, when you get to Jackson Hole, take one, and in the morning, another. You’ll flush everything out before the photo shoot.”

After Rakell had eaten the soup, Jake helped her pack, then let her know he would run home to shower and change. Rakell gave him her code, saying she’d probably be in the shower when he got back.
