Page 3 of Kiss To Tempt

All woman.

Just then, the door squeaks open moments before there’s a soft chime. Vanessa looks over my shoulder, her whole face lighting up.

Slowly, I turn around, wanting to know what caused that reaction. An average dude with dark blond hair, light eyes, and a few inches shorter than me, is standing in the doorway.

“Hey, babe,” he says, his attention on Vanessa.

“Hey,” she walks around the counter, going toward him. “I didn’t realize you were coming.”

“Just wanted to surprise you. See if you’re up for dinner tonight after work?”

A hand touches my shoulder. I turn around abruptly, only to see Ashton standing there looking at me funny. “Yo, dude, ready to go home?”

I turn my eyes to Vanessa, who’s still looking at the guy. Her boyfriend, from the looks of it. Of course she’d have a boyfriend.

She must hear Ashton because she turns toward us, her eyes meeting mine.

“I’ll see you, boys, soon?”

I hold her gaze for a heartbeat longer before nodding. “Yeah, I guess I’ll see you around.”

CHAPTERONE

QUINN

I pound my fist on the door. “Dude, if you don’t get your ass out of bed in the next sixty seconds, I’m leaving without you.”

Without waiting for an answer, I go to my room. Bypassing the unmade bed, I grab my duffle bag from the floor and throw it over my shoulder. The apartment is quiet as I cross the short hallway into the kitchen. The place is sparse, to say the least, but what is to be expected from an apartment three college dudes share?

Grabbing the smoothie off the counter, I finish what’s left in the glass, rinse it, and put it into the dishwasher before taking my water bottle out of the fridge and shoving it into my duffle bag.

I look down at the watch around my wrist. Sixty seconds were long gone.

Shaking my head, I go back into the hallway and snatch the keys off the little table by the front door just as Nate comes out of his room, yawning loudly.

“Took you long enough,” I mutter, unlocking the front door.

“What the fuck, dude? It’s summer break.”

“And you said you’d help me lead the basketball camp atBright Haven.”

Nate rubs the back of his neck. “I’m up, aren’t I?”

I give him a skeptical look. “Barely. When did you come home, anyway?”

Nate, I, and a few of the guys that are still on campus met for a basketball game yesterday. After two hours of playing, we decided to call it a day and instead went to Moore’s for dinner and drinks. I left around ten, but they opted to stay out since a group of girls had just joined us.

Nate rolls his eyes. “At midnight, mom.”

He’s two years younger than I am, and we’ve been roommates this past year. One of my old roommates had just graduated, and Nate needed a place to stay. It was a win-win situation. Another plus was that we were both on the basketball team. But sometimes, that age difference, no matter how small, showed.

This spring, I graduated college, but even before that, I was the team captain during my senior year. That gig came with a bunch of responsibilities that I didn’t take lightly—being a foster kid who had to battle for every single thing he’s accomplished and owns does that to a person.

I elbow him in the gut, effectively moving him out of my way. “Whatever, dude.”

He laughs as I walk around the truck and slip into the driver’s seat.

“No need to get your panties in a twist. It’s summer. Chill.” He takes the passenger seat and pulls the ball cap firmly over his eyes.
