Page 45 of Kiss To Tempt

I place my hand next to her thigh and lean against it, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear with my free hand. “Why not take a dip then?”

“Not a fan of pools.”

That gets my attention. “Like you’re afraid to swim…”

“I’m not afraid to swim,” she chuckles. “I just don’t like it.”

“What she doesn’t like is to mess up her hair,” Kiara says as she takes a chair I just emptied. On the other hand, she didn’t have a problem with getting into the pool or joining us in playing volleyball.

Vanessa turns around to look at her best friend. “So? Nothing wrong with that.”

“No, if you’re a fifty-year-old granny.”

“I’m not a granny. I just don’t like it to get wet.”

“I’d beg to differ,” I say, coughing to try to hide my laughter at her outraged face.

I wrap my arms around her and throw her over my shoulder. Vanessa looks around, a slightly panicked expression on her face. “Quinn, what do you think you’re doing?”

“Holding you?”

“I’d like for you to put me down.”

“You sure about that?”

“Yup, but don’t…”

Her cry is swallowed by the water as we jump into the pool, my arms wrapped tightly around Vanessa as we sink to the bottom.

Vanessa’s hold on me is like a little monkey, her arms and legs tightly wrapped around me as I push against the bottom. She sucks in a sharp breath, the water dripping down her face once we break the surface; our friends cheer loudly.

Vanessa’s hair is falling in her face, so I push it back. “You good?” I ask, barely holding in my laughter.

“You. Are. Crazy,” she wheezes out.

“You said to put you down,” I point out, chuckling.

“Put me down; not drop me into the pool!”

“Semantics.” I rub my finger over her cheek, loving the smoothness of her skin. “Next time, you’ll have to be more specific, Ness.”

She presses her lips together, clearly pissed. If I didn’t find it amusing and slightly arousing, I’d probably be scared. “I’ll give you more specific.”

Before I know it, she’s dunking me underwater. I could resist it; God knows I’m stronger than her. Instead, I let her shove me into the pool, but not without taking her with me. I slide my hands lower, gripping her ass and pressing her against my body.

My eyes burn as I try to keep them open, my vision blurry. Her hair is splayed through the water like a halo. I slide my hand up her back to her neck and drag her to me, my mouth brushing against hers. She stops struggling, her mouth melting under mine.

This time, when we push back to the surface, our lips are still locked. Our friends yell and holler even louder this time.

Breaking the kiss, I massage her neck. Slowly, I move my gaze from Vanessa to face my friends. “Do you really have to be so annoying?”

Nate splashes water at us. “Hey dude, we’re just trying to celebrate that you got your girlfriend to kiss you—albeit with drastic measures, but it’s better than nothing.”

I turn around to glare at him. “At least I have a girlfriend.”

The words are out of my mouth before I can think better of them. They slip off my tongue easily, like they’ve been there all this time—maybe because they have.

Contrary to other guys, I’ve never had commitment issues. If I liked the girl genuinely, I didn’t have a problem calling her my girlfriend, even if we ended up just fooling around for a few weeks.
