Page 73 of Kiss To Tempt

“Yeah, well,” Vanessa shrugs. “It is what it is, but it made me realize something.”

“What?”

“It didn’t hurt.”

My brows pull together. “What?”

“Leaving him. Walking away from him. It didn’t hurt. Yes, I was upset, but not like I should have been.”

“Okay…” I say slowly, still unsure of where she’s going with this.

“Seeing you with that girl.” I open my mouth to protest, but she presses her finger over my mouth. “Walking away from you. It hurt, Quinn. It freaking hurt. I don’t want to do that again.” Her tongue darts out sliding, over her lips. “I think… I think I’m falling for you, Quinn. Against all rational thought, and my better judgment. I think I’m falling for you.”

The corner of my mouth tilts upward. “You’re late.”

“Late?”

“Yes, late. Because I’ve already been in love with you for a while, Ness, but it’s good you’re finally catching up.”

And then I kiss her, hard and fast, until we’re both dizzy from the lack of air.

“Let’s go home, baby.”

EPILOGUE

VANESSA

A few months later

“Morning,” I say, rubbing at my eyes as I enter the small kitchen. Quinn turns around a smile on his face. He looks way too awake for this early in the morning.

“Morning.”

Putting his coffee cup on the counter, he turns around and opens his arms. He’s already dressed in a pair of jeans and a form-fitting tee with an unzipped hoodie over it, his go-to for work. I walk to him, his arms slip around my waist as he pulls me into him, his lips brushing against mine softly.

I hum happily as Quinn pulls back. His hands slide down to my waist, and he helps hoist me up on the counter. Taking a step back, he pours some coffee into a new cup and adds a little bit of creamer before handing it to me.

“Slept well?” he asks as he settles between my legs.

“For that little part, I was sleeping, sure.”

His hand falls on my thigh, his finger gently caressing my exposed skin. “I didn’t hear you complain last night.”

I graze my teeth over my lower lip, feeling my cheeks heat.

No, I sure as hell wasn’t complaining. It was hard when Quinn was so perfect. And not just when it came to sex. The last few months have been amazing overall. We went out on dates or just stayed in together. We’d talk about our day while making dinner together, and after that, we’d watch some TV show while cuddling on the couch before going to sleep. Not that going to sleep actually meant sleep.

All the reservations I used to have about dating him were gone.

Does he still go out and hang with the guys? Sure, but so do I. Sometimes I even go with him, or he’ll join Kiara and me when we hang out.

He makes me feel safe, protected, loved.

Quinn’s grin widens. He leans down, nibbling at my mouth until I let my lip pop, and then his mouth is on mine. I slide my hands around his neck, my fingers running through the wild curls on top of his head as his tongue slides into my mouth, deepening the kiss.

His hand slips to the small of my back, pulling me closer to the edge of the counter, so close I can feel the bulge growing behind the zipper of his pants pressing against me even under the layers of clothes separating us.

I moan softly, trying to raise my hips, and rub them against him to alleviate the pressure building inside me.
