In an instant, she sat up. She looked well rested and utterly adorable.

“I can’t believe I slept that long.”

“You look a million times better,” I told her.

She narrowed her eyes. “Is that your way of telling me I looked hideous this morning?”

Shaking my head, I promised, “You didn’t look hideous. That’d be impossible. But you looked exhausted, and I’m glad you agreed to come here to sleep for a bit. It looks like it was a smart decision.”

Indy took a deep breath and smiled at me. “I feel so much better, and I no longer have a headache. I don’t know how I could possibly thank you for this, Griffin. I desperately needed the rest.”

“Well, since you’re here, I can think of one way you can thank me.” There was no missing the playfulness in my tone.

Or I thought it was obvious I was being playful. No sooner had I said that, I watched Indy tense. “I… um… are you… what?”

Realizing she’d gotten the wrong impression, I quickly explained, “I wanted you to join me for lunch.”

Relief swept through her, and the tension left her body. “Oh, you meant lunch.”

I chuckled. “Yeah, sugar. I meant lunch. Do you honestly think I’m the kind of guy who’d expect sexual favors as payment for doing something nice for a woman?”

She shook her head. “Well, I didn’t think that, but then you said what you did the way you did, and I…. I got nervous.”

I cocked an eyebrow. “Nervous?”

Indy nodded. “I feel like I have energy again, but I don’t think I’d have enough strength to fight you off.”

For at least the second time today, I frowned. “I’d never do anything like that to you or any other woman, Indy. I’d like to think I’m charming and irresistible enough to make you want to do naughty things with me all on your own.”

She bit her lip.

When she made no move to speak, I asked, “So, what do you say?”

“To what?”

“Will you stay and have lunch with me?”

Indy’s features softened. “I think it’s crazy you are the one who does something nice for me, and for me to show my thanks, you want me to agree to allow you to feed me. It seems that I’m the one who’s reaping all the benefits.”

“No, you’re not. It might not seem that way, but I really like the idea of being able to sleep in my bed later tonight, knowing you were there all morning long.”

Her eyes shifted to the side as she licked her lips. She seemed to be lost in thought for a bit, almost as though she was wrestling with some conflicting thoughts in her head. Ultimately, Indy returned her attention to me and said, “Okay, Griffin. I’ll stay and have lunch with you.”

A smile formed on my face. “Great. And then we’ll talk about our plans for the rest of the day.”

“What does that mean?”

I didn’t respond with words. I merely winked at her and opened the refrigerator to pull out some food for lunch.

“How was snowboarding?”

The question fell from my lips at almost the precise moment Griffin sat down beside me at the table in his camper.

It was a smaller table, big enough for the two of us to sit and eat at together, but we weren’t able to sit in separate seats. Griffin and I were sitting right next to one another on the bench seat on one side of the table, which was located directly behind the driver’s seat.
