As he pulled me in for a hug, squeezing me tightly and making me feel even better than I already did, I replied quietly, “Thank you.”

Griffin held me for a long time, and I relished the feel of it. Maybe things were taking a turn for me. Why shouldn’t I have allowed myself to enjoy the good I was finally receiving?

“You know what this means?” Griffin asked.

I loosened my hold around him and leaned back slightly so I could look at him. “What?” I asked, feeling genuinely curious.

“We need to celebrate.”

“Celebrate? How are we going to do that?” I questioned him.

He grinned at me, his eyes dancing. “Well, we don’t have a whole lot of options to be able to celebrate the way you deserve, since we’re stranded here together, but we can make it work. We’ll go spend the rest of the morning and part of the afternoon doing what we originally planned to do today, but tonight, I’m going to take you out for a fancy dinner.”

My brows shot up, silently communicating my surprise and confusion. “A fancy dinner?”

Griffin nodded. “Yes. We’ve had the lodge food, and we’ve eaten in the camper. Tonight, I’m taking you out for dinner to one of the actual restaurants here at the resort, and we’re going to celebrate your job offer properly.”

I thought it sounded wonderful, and I was too excited to turn him down. So, I smiled at him and noted, “I just want us to make sure we don’t stay out too late on the mountain this afternoon, because I think I’m going to need to go back into the lodge and take a shower. This feels like an occasion I should be clean for.”

It was with those words that Griffin burst out laughing. His arms tightened around me, and he buried his face in my neck once again as his body shook with the force of his laughter. I loved it.

I loved the way it felt to be held in the arms of a man who was laughing at something I’d said and who’d shown me nothing but kindness from the day he met me.

His eyes were shining when he pulled his head back to look at me. “How about I do you one better and offer up a shower in a camper?”

“Oh, that sounds so tempting.”

Griffin’s expression darkened. “Brace yourself, sugar. I’m just getting started.”

A shiver ran down my spine. Griffin noticed it, but he didn’t do anything about it. So, I slid my hands over his shoulders and up into his hair. Then I pressed up on my toes and touched my mouth to his.

Griffin’s hold on me grew firm, and that’s when he took over the kiss.

And as his tongue swept into my mouth, I realized just how excited I was for our day together. Each day I’d been around him, I seemed to experience the best day of my life. I had a feeling today wasn’t going to be any different, and I couldn’t wait to see where it would lead us.

The water turned off in the shower, and I clenched my hands into fists.

The urge to get up and open the door was strong.

Indy was in there.

She was naked, in my shower, and I couldn’t stop imagining how beautiful the sight of her would be.

It was taking everything in me to hold myself back and allow things to happen naturally between us, just like they’d been happening all week long.

There was the part of me that realized it had only been a matter of days since I met her. That part could recognize that things had progressed nicely between us, and I truly couldn’t be upset about it.

But there was the other part of me in extreme opposition, feeling like this was moving at a reduced pace.

Fortunately, the rational and logical side of my brain recognized just how ridiculous that was, allowing me to succeed at remaining patient.

Ever since I was a kid, I’d become so accustomed to going after what I wanted, and I didn’t let anything stand in my way.

It was different with Indy. From the moment I met her and started to get to know her, I knew I needed to have a different approach. Though I didn’t know why just yet, I intended to find out.
