Still smiling, I replied, “I love them. Thank you so much for sending them. It was very thoughtful of you, and they’re so pretty.”

“I’m glad to hear that. It sounds like it’s been a great day for you all the way around then,” Griffin noted.

“It has.”

Following a beat of silence, he asked, “So, what are your plans for the rest of the night? I mean, you want to ensure this day continues to make you smile.”

I tipped my head to the side, feeling curious about his words. “How do you know I’m smiling?”

Griffin let out a laugh. “I can hear it in your voice.

“Really?”

“Yep. Whenever you’re happy, I can hear a slightly different pitch in your voice, and I could hear that from the very first words you said when I answered your call,” he explained.

Griffin was just giving more and more reasons to feel good today. The fact he recognized the change in my voice when I was happy might not have been a big deal to someone else, but it meant everything to me. It indicated to me that Griffin paid attention to the little things, and I couldn’t help but think he’d always be that way.

If that was the case, the likelihood was that he’d easily and quickly quell the fears and worries I had about anything, moving forward. And while I didn’t want to compare Griffin to Travis, I couldn’t stop myself from noticing just how different they were in that regard. I’d come right out and told Travis about things that bothered me, and he simply wrote them off. Griffin merely listened to the sound of my voice and knew what I was feeling.

Unsure it wouldn’t send me into a tailspin if I reacted to his words, I decided to answer his original question. “My plan for tonight was to make myself some dinner before I head out to take some pictures. The sky looks beautiful, and with the snow-covered trees and mountains, I figure it’ll all make for some spectacular photos.”

“I can’t wait to see them.”

“What about you?” I asked.

“What about me?”

“What is your plan for tonight?” I questioned him.

There was an extended pause before he replied, “That’s actually part of the reason I was just about to call you. Not only did I want to ask about your day, but I also just finished packing up the camper.”

In an instant, the wind was out of my sails. I could admit I was caught off guard. I didn’t know what he was going to tell me he’d done today or was planning to do tonight, but I hadn’t expected he was going to tell me he’d packed up his camper.

It meant he was leaving.

“Oh?” I replied, trying my hardest to keep the sound of my voice neutral.

“Yeah, I’m going to head out tonight and start making my way to Jackson Hole,” he revealed.

Jackson Hole. He was going to Wyoming. He’d be hours away.

“How long are you going to be gone?” I wondered, hoping he wouldn’t be able to detect just how sad I felt.

I didn’t want to be sad, but the truth was that I was hoping we’d be able to spend some time together. I realized he’d just spent the weekend with me, and he didn’t need to be with me all the time, but I loved being around him and had hoped I’d be able to spend time with him later in the week.

“I’m just going to go for a few days. I’ll be back on Friday, because I want to see you this weekend.”

Immediately, my mood lifted.

Of course, as excited and relieved as I was about Griffin’s plans to make it back to Blue Spruce to spend time with me this coming weekend, there was one small thing I couldn’t ignore.

“How much are they going to get?” I asked.

“What?”

“You like to chase the storm, Griffin,” I reminded him. “I suspect Jackson Hole is slated to get some snow. I was merely curious about how much they’re expecting.”

“Oh. I think they’re expecting about ten to twelve inches tomorrow night, so Wednesday should be a great day of riding.”
