“Who the hell do you think you are?”

“The owner of this establishment and you’ve had too much alcohol in the last two hours. You need to slow it down.” Hudson stands next to my barstool.

I slide off the barstool and stumble to keep myself upright. “I don’t know who you think you are, but your service customer skills suck!”

“You mean my customer service skills? Yeah, I’ve been told that a time or two. Still not letting you drink anymore. Drink your water.”

“It’s fine. I’ll just go home and drink. I’ll drink everything in my frigerator. In my cabnets.” I attempt to poke him in the chest, but my finger misses.

He grabs my hand as I start to sway. “Okay. You’re done with this beer, too.” Hudson tosses my beer into the trash can behind the bar with the hand not currently holding me up. “How’d you get here, tonight?”

“None of your busnussess.” Wow, maybe I have had too much. The room has started to spin on me, so I plop my ass back on the barstool before I fall.

He sighs and grabs my purse.

“What are you lookin’ for?” I ask offended that he grabbed my purse from my arm.

“Your keys. I want to make sure you won’t drive home.”

“Ha! I took abur.”

“You mean an Uber?”

“Thas what I said… abur.”

Hudson smiles and I feel myself melting. His teeth are so white, they blind me and the dimple on his cheek is adorable. I try to poke it with my finger, but he grabs my other hand.

“Okay, pretty lady. It’s time for you to go home. What’s your address?”

“Idunno?”

“Never mind. I’ve got your license. I’ll take you home. Let’s go.” Hudson grabs me by my elbow and starts me towards the front door.

“Wait! Grace!” I try to point to the dance floor, but I can’t seem to find it.

“Your friend is fine. She’s with my friend, Kane. He’ll take care of her.” Hudson all but carries me outside to the parking lot. “Think you can make it to my truck? It’s right over there.” He points to a giant black truck next to the building.

“Course.” I stumble over my feet and almost trip, but he rights me before I fall.

He sighs and shakes his head while opening the passenger side door for me. “In you go.”

I climb in and my foot slips and I fall face first onto the seat. “Whoopsie daisy!” Not my most graceful move.

“You okay?” he laughs.

I ignore him as I’m sure I’m going to regret this night once I’m sober. Righting myself in the passenger seat, I pull the seatbelt and attempt to latch it, but I’m having difficulty. I think I’m getting drunker by the second.

“Here. Let me help you.” Hudson reaches around me, takes the buckle and latches me in. As he starts to pull back, our faces are mere centimeters apart from each other. “You good?” He whispers.

I can only nod because even in my abhorrent drunken state, Hudson smells amazing and the electricity I felt a few days ago, is back with a vengeance.

He pulls away and closes my door and runs to his side of the truck and climbs in. “Ready?”

I nod again.

He starts the truck and backs out of the parking space.

It’s the last thing I remember.
