I double check everything is unplugged and cleaned up and then I close up my shop and jump into my SUV when my cell rings. “Hello?”

“Hi Kate.”

“Hi Grace. How was the date with James?”

She sighs heavily, “It sucked just like I thought it would.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Wanna go to the movies with me?” She asks.

I look at the time on the dashboard. “Sure. Let me run home and check on Wilbur. Meet me there in an hour and we’ll leave from my house.”

“Perfect. See ya then.”

I push the button on my phone, and the call disconnects. It’s a short ride back to my house since it’s Sunday and there’s hardly any traffic. Wilbur is waiting for me on the patio.

“Honk. Honk.”

“Hello to you, too. Did you have a good day?”

“Honk.”

I open the door to my tiny house and Wilbur walks inside first.

“Honk.”

“Okay. Well, Grace is on her way over and then we’re going to the movies. Are you going to be okay?”

“Honk.”

“I thought so. You’re such a brave goose.” I pet him down his back and he shakes his tail feathers.

“Honk.”

“Want to go to that new bar, Hooplas, Friday night?” Grace asks on our way back to my place from the movies. “I feel like drinking and dancing.”

I turn to her as she’s driving. “You feel like drinking and dancing on Friday when it’s only Sunday night?” I laugh at her. “What’s the real reason?”

She stops at a light. “I feel like we don’t get out any more like we used to.”

“We’re out right now. Besides, we’re not twenty-one anymore, Grace.” I laugh at her.

“Kate, we’re not twenty-one anymore, but we’re also not eighty-one, either. Let’s make plans. Something to look forward to, you know, to get us through the week. What do ya say?”

“Friday night?”

Grace nods.

“Just drinks and dancing? No setting me up with anyone or complaining about me not dating anyone?”

Grace nods.

“Okay. I’ll see if Chloe can handle the shop on Saturday morning, ya know, just in case there’s too much drinking and dancing.”

Grace claps her hands. “Yay!”

The light turns green, and she steers us through my neighborhood and to my lot. “Want to come in?”
