The stethoscope is cold on my body, but I watch as Reid nods to himself. “Sounds great. Looks like I’ll be able to kick you out of here in the morning. Sound like a plan?”

“Sounds like a brilliant plan.”

“I’ve got my spare bedroom all set up for you, Kate. I can pick you up around nine.” She turns to Reid. “Will that work for you? Can you get her outta here by then?”

“Sure.” Reid says, but looks at me and Hudson with wide eyes.

“What?” she asks him and then to me. “What?”

“Guys. Can Grace and I have the room, please?” I ask them.

“I’ll be right outside.” Hudson kisses my forehead.

“See you in the morning, Kate. Rest and do what the wardens tell you to do.”

I only smile as Grace and I watch them walk out of the room and close the door behind them.

“What’s going on?” she asks suspiciously.

I pat the side of my bed. “Here. Sit down.”

“Are you dying? Cause I just heard him say you’re doing fine.” She points to the closed door.

“Would you just sit down, please?”

She huffs, “Fine. I’m sitting. Now, tell me what’s going on.”

“Grace. You know I love you more than life.”

“Oh my god, you are dying!” She grabs my hands.

“I’m not dying. Will you shut up and listen to me, please?” I say over her yelling.

She takes a deep breath. “Fine. Tell me.”

“I’m moving in with Hudson when I’m released tomorrow.”

Grace clasps her chest with both hands. “Oh thank God. I thought you were going to say he proposed, and you were getting married. Don’t get me wrong, that’ll be great when he does and you do, but not yet.”

I only smile at her. She doesn’t need to know.

“Plus, remember when we tried to be roommates in college, and we almost killed each other after only two weeks? I wasn’t sure how this was going to work, but I’d be damned if you were going to be homeless.”

I laugh, and it feels good. “God, I remember those two weeks. I didn’t know you were so hard to live with. How on earth are you so meticulous with finances but cannot clean up after yourself? You’re right, we almost killed each other.”

She sighs. “Well, I’m glad you’re moving in with him.”

“You are?”

“Yeah. He’s been amazing to you since you two met and then the last two days… well, let me just say that I’d pay money to have someone care about me the way he does about you. I’ve seen him watch your every move and the love in his eyes.”

I agree with her. “Yeah, I’ve seen it, too. And you’ll find your guy. I’m wondering if you already have, but just haven’t noticed it yet.”

“What craziness are you spewing? I dumped that pilot weeks ago.”

“I mean… what’s going on between you and Kane?”

“Kane? What? Nothing is going on between me and Kane. Have you lost your mind? Oh wait. You have a head injury, that’s right, because you would remember that he rejected me. Besides, he’s been more of a pain in the ass.”
