“No.”

“Will you come in and talk to me?”

“We’ll see. I need to go back to bed and then get to the hospital. Goodbye, Beckett.”

She closes the door in my face.

I walk toward the car and Nico has a big smile on his face. “I told you to crawl to her.”

“Stop fucking smiling. Set up a fight for tonight.”

“Yes, sir.”

CHAPTER THIRTY

BECKETT

It’s been a week since I’ve seen Amanda. She’s giving me the silent treatment. I’m miserable. I’ve had three fights this week. I don’t remember a time when I’ve done so many in such a short period of time. I’m sinking.

I’ve gone to her house every day. She’s either not there, or if she is, asks me to leave and give her space. How long is she going to punish me?

The only happy news is that Dominic Mazzello came back to town this week and Reagan immediately invited him to rejoin Daulton Holdings. I offered him his old office, it’s the least I could do. I moved to a slightly smaller office down the hallway. I don’t really care; I don’t care about anything besides getting my girl back.

Dominic and I got along so well when we met a year and a half ago, and we’ve picked up right wherewe left off. It’s nice to have someone in my age bracket in the office. Everyone else here is so young.

He’s trying desperately to win his girlfriend back. The one he abruptly left when he moved to Cuba. He said it’s not going well. I can certainly commiserate right now.

I’m sitting in my office, getting little done. I must be imagining things because I see Amanda’s ponytail go by my door. I quickly stand and see her walking toward Jade’s office. She turns in.

I run in after her and close the door. “Hey, cherry pie.”

Her shoulders fall. “I purposefully avoided walking by your office.”

“I have a new office.”

“I’m not here for you. Jade said she needs a few things. I’m just here to grab them.”

I can’t help myself. I pull her into my arms, and she lets me. “I’m sorry I doubted you. I made a mistake. How much longer are you going to punish me?” I inhale her. “I miss you.”

She rests her head on my chest. “I miss you too, but you hurt me.”

“I know. I’m sorry.”

“I asked you for space and you didn’t give it to me.”

“I just miss you. I’m used to seeing you every day.”

She looks up and touches the bruises and cuts on my face. “What are you doing to yourself? It needs to stop. You need help.”

I pull back. “I’m a grown man, don’t tell me what I need. The only thing I need is you back in my fucking bed where you belong.”

She pulls away, grabs a few things from Jade’s desk, and makes her way to the door. “Call me when you’re done being a spoiled brat. Not before then.” She closes the door behind her.

Shit. Me and my big mouth.

Yet another weekhas gone by. I stop by every day, and she always tells me to go away. This is torture.

It’s after midnight and I’m wide awake. My mind is racing. Her scent is gone from my sheets, from her pillow. I hate it. It’s like I can’t breathe without her. How did I become so dependent on having Amanda in my life?
