“The baby is healthy.”

“Good.” She crosses her arms. “What are your intentions with my mother?”

“To love the fuck out of her every single day for the rest of my life.”

“You know, Beckett, my mother believes in fairy tales. She believes in Prince Charming. All she’s ever wanted is to find him and have a bigger family. This is her last chance for it. You can’t fuck with her head anymore.”

“I’m not.” I look her square in the eyes. “Believe me when I tell you that I love her, and I know we’re meant to be. She’s the air I breathe. She’smyfairytale come true.”

“If you’re in, you better be all fucking in.”

“I’m all fucking in. I’m working on earning her trust back. Once I do, she’ll get everything she wants and more. I’ll never treat her as anything but the queen she is. She’ll get her happily ever after. I promise. I know what I’m doing.”

She narrows her eyes at me. “You have a plan, don’t you?”

I smile. “I might.”

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

AMANDA

I’m on my way to Darian and Jackson’s house to deliver a painting I created for them. I told Jade I would text when I was close so she could help me carry it in. I’m wearing an oversized sweatshirt. I’m not ready for this whole crew to know about my pregnancy. I’m not sure what the status of my relationship is with Beckett, and I don’t want to answer any questions.

When I pull into the driveway, I shoot her a text. She immediately opens the front door.

“Hey, baby.”

“Hey, Mom. Everyone is out back. Aunt Darian said to join them when we’re done.”

“Sounds good.”

We maneuver the painting into Jackson’s office and then walk toward their massive backyard. The back of their house has a big glass wall. I suppose it’s new considering Declan and Collin crashed through it last year. As we getcloser, I notice that all the adults are eating at the table and the kids are in the pool.

Jade walks out first, with me behind her. As soon as I step outside, I hear, “Mandy?”

I look up and, for the first time in twenty-five years, I see Dominic Mazzello. My first love whose life I ruined that day in college. The impetus for my life spinning out of control for the next two years. He’s older, but unmistakably the same handsome man I dated and loved all those years ago.

I throw my hand over my mouth as tears immediately form in my eyes.

Dominic looks at me in complete and total shock. I’m sure he hates me. Seeing me likely brings back so many painful memories for him.

Jade touches my shoulder, undoubtedly confused. “Mom, how do you know Dominic?”

“He…he…he was a friend from college.” I give her a knowing look. “Just before I dropped out.”

She nods, knowing exactly who I mean.

Dominic looks at her in disbelief. “Jade, your mother is Amanda Tremaine? But your last name is McGinley.”

“My parents were never married. I use Tremaine as my middle name and McGinley as my last.”

Wait, they know each other’s names. I ask, “How doyouknow Dominic?”

“I work with him.”

Oh my god. She works with him? Holy shit. That means Beckett does too.

Dominic keeps staring at Jade. “How old are you?”
