“Is everyone okay…?”
“Do you know where she went…?”
“No, I’m not home. I’ll head there now…”
“Yes, I’ll let you know. I’ll call if she shows up.”
She ends the call and takes a huge breath as she stands and walks into her closet. I don’t usually intrude on her space, but I want to know what’s going on.
I stand there, waiting. She looks up at me while she gets dressed. “It’s Jade. Declan found out about her boyfriend and, apparently, he got into a huge fistfight with the man. They literally crashed througha glass wall at Darian and Jackson’s house. She said that the guy professed his love for Jade in front of the entire family, which of course she couldn’t handle. She took off. No one knows where she went. She’s probably headed to my house. I’m sorry. I need to go.”
“Of course. If you’re upset, I’ll drive you.”
“No thanks, I’m fine. I can drive myself.”
She finishes throwing on sweatpants and a sweatshirt. “I don’t know if I’ll be back tonight. I’m really sorry. I hope your mom and Andie understand.”
“Don’t worry about us. Find Jade. Will you reach out later and let me know she’s okay?”
She nods as she walks over and throws her arms around my waist. I hug her in return, taking in the scent of hair. I want to go with her and care for her. I’m so far gone for this woman.
I can feel her starting to sob. I kiss her head. “She’ll be okay.”
“She’s like this because of me. I’ve fucked her up so badly. I make bad decision after bad decision.”
