“I can’t disagree with that. Did Ignatius say something to you? You shouldn’t listen to a word that pompous ass says.”

“It doesn’t matter. He just opened my eyes to the truth I’ve always known was there.”

I hear a chair screech as if one of them stood up. Ipeek in. Amanda is walking over to Mom and hugs her. “Thank you for being so wonderful. I hope they know how lucky they are to have you.”

I see Mom tearing. “They’re lucky to have you too.”

Amanda croaks, “Goodbye Glinda.”

I hide as she makes her way out of the kitchen and quickly walks back upstairs.

Just then, Nico walks in. “Are you ready Glinda?”

She nods and motions toward her suitcases. Nico grabs them and heads out to the car. She pulls me into a hug and kisses my cheek. “Make things right with her.”

“I will. I promise.”

I watch her leave and then head upstairs. Amanda is in the studio. She’s writing in a notepad.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m leaving some instructions for Andie for a few of the styles she wanted to learn. Please read them to her. Tell her to call me if she’s having any problems.”

“Why don’t you stay and teach her?”

She steels her face. “No. Our deal was one month. I’ve lived up to my end of the bargain. I can’t be in this house anymore, living this life. It’s not me.” She pauses for a brief moment. “I’m comfortable in two rooms in this house. The family room and this studio. Does it ever strike you as odd that I spend minimal time anywhere else? I can’t be here anymore. I don’t belong.”

“But if you—”

“What time and where are we meeting with the last buyer?”

“Seven. We’re going to a small club to see a band play with them. They’re younger and more casual than the other two buyers.”

She nods as she stands to close the door in my face. “Okay, I’ll see you at seven.”

Despite beingin the same house, we didn’t talk or see each other all day. I was in my home office, and she was in her studio.

It’s just before seven and I walk in the bathroom to see Amanda putting the final touches on her makeup. “You look beautiful.”

She’s in a strapless, short, tight leather dress. The zipper runs diagonal across the front from top to bottom. Her hair is in a stylish ponytail, tight on the sides and looser up top. She’s wearing a black choker that’s making my dick twitch. I’ve never been more jealous of a piece of plastic jewelry in my life.

Our eyes meet in the mirror, and she forces a smile. “Thank you.”

“You’re very rock and roll tonight.”

She lets out a small laugh. That’s progress. “You said we’re going to club to see a band play.”

I can’t help but smile. “It’s a jazz club.”

Her eyes widen as she looks herself up and down. “Oh, maybe I should change.”

I grab her arm. “Don’t you dare.” I need this image to jerk off to later. “You’re perfect just as you are. I think you’ll like this place. It’s a hole in the wall, off the beaten track. Jackson Knight introducedme to it years ago.”

“Okay, and the buyer is meeting us there?”

“No, they’ll be here any minute to pick us up. I thought they could take a look at some of your pieces in person. They’ve only seen pictures, being from Texas, and we can’t exactly bring paintings into the club.”

She nervously nods. She doesn’t like the sales end of her business. It’s a necessary evil, but she simply enjoys the creative aspect.
