Miles couldn’t help but stare at the vet’s powerful forearms and his large, strong hands as he finished wrapping the dressing. His belly tightened all over again.

“Hey.” Logan brightened when he saw him. “I’m pretty much done here. Want a coffee?”

Miles nodded, tongue-tied.

CHAPTER5

Logan’s pulsethrummed as he rose from the stool.

Thank God my dick calmed down.

Seeing Miles half-naked in his bathroom had done things to his libido Logan hadn’t experienced in a while. He’d been rock hard by the time he’d emerged on the landing outside the apartment. Much to his embarrassment, he’d had to think of complex chemical formulas to bring his raging erection under control.

His stomach clenched with desire when he caught a whiff of his shampoo and body wash wafting off Miles. To say that he was stunned by the insta-lust he was feeling toward a guy he’d just met would be putting things mildly.

Logan couldn’t remember being this captivated by another person, be they female or male.

The puppy made a worried sound as he came around the table.

“It’s okay, boy.” Logan ruffled his head. “Pepper will keep you company.” He lifted the dog and placed him in a basket on the floor.

Pepper climbed in and curled her body around the puppy before he could attempt to get out. The puppy faltered before settling down beside her.

“He doesn’t have a microchip, so he’s definitely been abandoned,” Logan said thoughtfully. He smiled when the puppy carefully licked Pepper’s face. “That should keep him happy for a while.” He turned to Miles. “Shall we?”

Miles nodded and followed Logan to the kitchen.

Logan’s skin prickled with awareness as he made them coffee. The room wasn’t exactly small. Yet he couldn’t help but be conscious of Miles’s every breath and move.

Miles looked around curiously. “Did you close for the whole day?”

“Only the morning.” Logan handed him a steaming cup. “I had an appointment I couldn’t miss.”

Miles blew on his coffee before taking a sip.

Logan leaned a hip against the counter. “So, how come you walked here?”

“I was out for a run.” Miles shrugged. “I only live a few miles from here.”

“Are you off work today?” Logan asked before he could help himself.

Miles’s expression grew strained.

Logan winced. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to pry.”

“You aren’t,” Miles said quietly. “I’m…not working right now.”

He ducked his head and drank his coffee.

Logan stared.Curiouser and curiouser.

Miles’s clothes and trainers looked expensive.

“Oh.” Logan straightened. “I should put your stuff in the dryer.”

“It’s okay, I can take the clothes home,” Miles protested. “Besides, I need to wash these and bring them back.” He tugged at the T-shirt he was wearing.

Logan was about to object when he realized this would give him another opportunity to see Miles. “Okay.”
