Logan shook himself out of the spell he’d fallen under.

“It’s your first date.” He leaned in, kissed Miles’s cheek softly, and handed him the pretty bouquet.

Logan hoped Miles didn’t notice the way his hands trembled a little.

Color crept into Miles’s cheeks as he accepted the flowers. He buried his face in the blooms to hide his blush. “They’re beautiful.” He gave Logan a bashful look from under his lashes. “Thank you.”

Logan groaned.

Alarm tightened Miles’s mouth. “What is it?”

“I’m seriously tempted to skip dinner and feast on you instead,” Logan confessed fervently, all notion of staying calm and composed swept away by the adorable storm that was Miles Martinez.

Miles’s mouth rounded on a shocked O. “You—you can’t! You said you booked an expensive restaurant.”

Logan burst out laughing. He pressed a quick peck to Miles’s lips. “I don’t mind canceling. But I should make good on my promise to you.”

Miles chewed his lip, no doubt recalling the conversation they’d had over breakfast on Sunday. “You don’t have to do this, you know. It’s not like I’m eighteen anymore.”

A protective feeling swelled inside Logan at his vulnerable expression.

“I know,” he said quietly. “But I want to do this. I want to make all your firsts great, Miles.”

Miles’s eyes grew misty with emotion.

Logan cursed inwardly.Yeah, I probably won’t make it past dessert.

“Besides, I went to third base way too fast, so we’re going to take it real slow from now on.”

Miles’s expression fell at Logan’s firm tone. “I thought you were joking when you said that.”

Logan did his best to keep a straight face at his disappointed mien. “I was dead serious. I’m going to court you properly, Miles Martinez, so no hanky-panky until we have at least two more dates.”

Miles looked like a puppy whose favorite toy had just been taken away from him.

“So, does that mean we’re really—” He stopped, chewed his lip, and looked around warily before leaning close to Logan, his voice dropping to a whisper despite the fact that there was no one else around, “we’re really not going to touch each other’s di?—!”

Logan pressed a hand to Miles’s mouth, not sure whether to laugh or groan.

“You’re going to be the death of me,” he mumbled. “Come on, let’s get out of here before I change my mind and jump you.”

Miles’s ears went bright red. He went into the kitchen to put the flowers in a vase and returned.

Blue whined when he started closing the door.

Miles stopped, concern clouding his face. “Is he really going to be okay?”

“Yes, he is.” Logan leaned down and ruffled the puppy’s head. “Pepper’s gonna keep you company so be a good boy, Blue,” he told the dog firmly.

The puppy wagged his tail slowly. He turned, gave them one last longing look over his shoulder, and padded after Pepper as the hound headed for the kitchen.

Miles locked up and followed Logan to his pickup. “So, where are you taking me?”

Logan smiled and opened the passenger door for Miles. “A place I’m pretty sure you’ve never been to before.”

The way Miles flushed as he climbed inside the vehicle told Logan he appreciated the gentlemanly gesture.

The restaurant Logan drove them to was on the banks of Twilight Falls River, at the end of a secluded driveway a little outside town. From the reviews he’d read online, it served great food and was a favorite among couples.
