“Tristan used to win before James came into the picture,” Hunter explained with a smirk.

“Ah.” Logan made a face at James and Tristan. “Sorry.”

“It’s alright,” James grunted. “I’ll beat your ass next week.”

“Babe,” Tristan muttered with a chagrined look while chuckles broke out around the table.

Logan grinned. “Challenge accepted.” He offered James his hand.

James grumbled and shook it.

Nathan stood up. “Better make coffee to go with that pie.”

Wyatt accompanied him and uncovered the pie on the cooling rack on the counter.

Hunter sniffed the air appreciatively as the heady smell of baked apples and cinnamon filled the room. “I swear, eating Elijah’s food is as close as I can get to an orgasm outside the bedroom.”

This elicited groans from everyone. Theo sighed.

“I’ll buy you the damn muzzle for Christmas,” James told Hunter’s fiancé with a scowl.

Logan chuckled and rose to go check up on Miles and the dogs. He froze when he stepped inside the hall.

Izzy was slipping out the front door.

Logan’s mood sobered. He’d briefly forgotten about the whole Izzy conundrum. He hesitated before heading for the door.

Logan wasn’t sure why he was going after Izzy. He just knew he couldn’t leave things as they were between them. Not when he intended to be a big part of Miles’s life.

Logan slowed when he passed the den. His chest lightened.

Elijah had changed Maisie into pajamas and was cradling her in his lap on the floor, in front of a roaring fire. Miles sat in front of them and read the sleepy little girl a story, the dogs lying quietly next to him.

Logan smiled and strolled into the foyer. He spotted the blankets sitting on the lower shelf of a console table and grabbed a pair before he went outside.

CHAPTER16

Elijah’s voicefaded behind Miles as he stepped out into the hallway. He’d taken over telling Maisie a bedtime story so Miles could go to the rest room.

Miles swallowed a sigh.

He still wasn’t sure how he felt about Logan coming over for poker night.

It was only after Logan had dropped him home at the end of their date last Friday and pressed a chaste kiss to his cheek before bidding him goodnight, that Miles had realized a startling truth.

He wasn’t ready to share Logan with his friends yet.

Guilt tightened his belly at that thought.

Jeez, who knew I could be so selfish.

A cold draft raised goosebumps on his neck. He turned in time to see Logan disappear out the front door with a pair of blankets.

Miles frowned. He faltered before retracing his steps, curious as to what Logan was up to.

The door was slightly ajar when he entered the foyer. He was about to pull it open when he heard Izzy’s voice.
