Logan rose. “I have to go,” he said wistfully.

Miles folded his arms atop his knees. “Have a great day.”

Logan’s expression turned complicated.

“What?” Miles said, puzzled.

“You have no idea how delectable you look right now,” Logan said heatedly. “Maybe I should cancel that surgery after all.”

Miles laughed, his heart swelling with happiness. “Go!”

“I’ll make dinner tonight,” Logan promised as he walked out the bedroom.

“I’ll see you later.”

Miles listened to the sound of the front door closing and Logan’s pickup driving off. He buried his face in his hands, unable to stop the goofy smile stretching his mouth.

He’d thought things might be awkward between them after last night. Instead, sharing a morning with Logan felt as natural as breathing.

Blue whined. Miles raised his head.

The puppy glanced at him before padding to the bedroom door, his tail drooping.

“It’s okay, Blue. Pepper will be back soon.” Miles climbed out of bed. “Wanna go for a run?”

Blue’s ears perked up. He yipped, his tail swinging excitedly.

Miles got dressed and was halfway down the stairs when an idea came to him. He hesitated before taking his cell out of his pocket. He sent a text to Elijah before he could change his mind. Elijah replied right away.

It was mid-morning when Miles opened the back door ofLa Petite Bouche Gourmandeand walked into Elijah’s bakery.

Elijah greeted him with a smile where he was measuring flour into a bowl at one of the counters. “Hey. Why don’t you take a seat? I’ll be finished with this batch soon.”

Miles slowed when he saw the two men seated at the kitchen island. “What are you guys doing here?”

Alex shrugged. “We came for breakfast.”

“Same,” Hunter added shamelessly, indicating his coffee and blueberry muffin.

Elijah chuckled at Miles’s mildly disapproving look. “It’s alright. I like it when you guys keep me company.”

The rear door squeaked open. Roman tumbled in with a haggard expression, his hair askew.

“Elijah,” the rockstar moaned. He staggered over the chef and dropped his head on his shoulder. “I need coffee and croissants.”

Elijah patted his back with an indulgent expression. “Is the new song still giving you trouble?”

“Yeah.” Roman sighed and looped his arms around Elijah’s waist. “I keep messing up the lyrics. All I can think about is my wedding with Drake.” He rubbed his nose in Elijah’s chef uniform. “You smell nice.”

“Carter would have a heart attack if he saw you two right now,” Alex told Elijah drily.

“Never mind Carter,” Hunter muttered. “Drake would be foaming at the mouth.”

The swing door to the eatery opened, bringing with it the sound of the morning crowd packing the shop. Sam Harris, Elijah’s bakery manager, poked her head through the gap.

“I heard voices.” Her eyes narrowed when she saw Roman. “How about you stop clinging to my boss and let him work? There’s a line of people out here waiting for his baked goods.”

“You know, you used to show me a lot more respect when we first met,” Roman grumbled.
