“You’re bruised pretty badly.” Drake frowned and headed for the door. “I’ll go get a nurse.”

“Where’s Miles?” Logan mumbled.

A muscle jumped in Drake’s jawline as he stopped in the doorway. He looked at Logan over his shoulder, his expression strangely shuttered.

“He’s in the waiting room with the others.”

Logan puzzled over his stilted tone as he disappeared.

“How’s the dog you called about?” he asked Lucy.

“She’s fine.” Her expression remained haunted. “I shouldn’t have called you.” Lucy dropped her face in her hands, her shoulders trembling. “I should have just handled it myself. I feel so guilty that I put you and Miles through this.”

Logan looked out of the window. The snowstorm had abated. What he could see of the landscape was covered in fresh, white snow.

“What day is it?”

“December twenty-eighth,” Lucy mumbled.

Logan’s stomach plummeted. “I was out for two days?!” he said hoarsely.

A nurse turned up before Lucy could reply, Drake trailing in her steps. Izzy and Alex weren’t far behind.

The nurse checked Logan over and left to report his status to the doctors.

“I’m so glad you’re okay.” Izzy sat on the bed and grasped Logan’s fingers with a trembling hand. There were dark circles under her eyes. “When Wyatt told me they’d found you, my heart almost stopped.”

Logan reeled. “What? Wyatt found me?”

Izzy glanced at Drake and Alex before meeting Logan’s stunned gaze.

“Lucy called Miles and said you hadn’t made it to the practice. Drake, Tristan, Wyatt, Hunter, and Miles went looking for you with Pepper. They found your pickup and the car that crashed into you.”

“Miles.” Panic squeezed Logan’s chest all of a sudden. He could only imagine what must have gone through Miles’s mind when he’d seen that Logan had been in an accident. “Where is he?!”

“He’s—” Izzy stopped and chewed her lip.

“I’ll, er, go get a drink,” Lucy murmured awkwardly. She rose and left.

Alex blew out a heavy sigh after she disappeared. He ran a hand through his hair. “Your boyfriend’s being a coward,” he told Logan in a tired voice.

“Alex,” Izzy protested.

“Alex isn’t wrong, Izzy,” Drake said sternly. “If anyone has the right to react the way Miles is doing, it’s you. This is the second time you’ve had to live through something like this.”

Izzy paled. She looked down at the bedsheets, her lower lip trembling. “That’s why I know what it’s like.” Her voice broke. “I know what he’s going through right now.”

Drake cursed and came over to wrap his arms around her.

Blood pounded in Logan’s veins. “Izzy, can I have your phone?”

Izzy wiped her eyes with the back of a hand and gave him a puzzled look. “Why?”

“I’m going to call him.”

Izzy blinked. “Oh.” She dug inside the pocket of her jacket and passed Logan her cell.

Logan’s chest tightened as he dialed Miles’s number.
