Pepper jumped on the couch and licked his face before plopping down on his lap. They were watching the fire crackling in the hearth when the doorbell rang.
Pepper raised her head. An excited woof left her.
She jumped on the floor and darted out of the room.
Logan’s pulse quickened. He rose and went out in the hall.
A familiar figure was outlined through the frosted glass in the door.
Miles!
Logan stormed inside the foyer and pulled his front door open, Pepper huffing animatedly beside him.
Blue bolted inside the house and yipped wildly as he jumped around Pepper.
Miles wasn’t alone. Logan stared at the woman standing beside his pale-faced lover.
She smiled at him warmly. “Hi, Logan. I’m Elaine Martinez, Miles’s mom.”
Logan’s heart thudded against his ribs. He swallowed. “Hello, Mrs. Martinez.” His gaze shifted to Miles. “Hey.”
Elaine put a hand to Miles back and pushed him forward. “Go on.”
Some color returned to Miles’s face. “I—I’m sorry. I should have?—!”
Logan closed the distance to him, clutched his face, and took his mouth in a passionate kiss. Miles gasped before melting against him, his arms rising to loop tightly around Logan’s neck.
Elaine cleared her throat discreetly a moment later.
Logan reluctantly lifted his mouth off Miles. Miles blinked at him dazedly before touching his swollen lips, his cheeks rosy and his eyes bright.
Logan gave Elaine a sheepish look. “I’m, er, sorry.”
Elaine chuckled. “Don’t be. I’m glad to see how much you love and treasure my son. How about I give you boys some time?” Mischief brightened her eyes. “On second thought, I’ll see you for breakfast tomorrow.”
“Mom!” Miles mumbled, mortified.
Elaine grinned. “Happy New Year.” She kissed Miles and Logan on the cheek and looked at Blue. “Come on, Blue.” Elaine leaned down and scratched Pepper under the chin. “You must be Pepper. Want to come and spend some time with me?”
Logan patted Pepper’s head. “Go on.”
Pepper hesitated before following Elaine and Blue across the porch and down the steps.
Logan closed the front door and turned to look at Miles. His stomach clenched as he studied his beautiful face and the circles under his eyes.
“Come here.”
Miles flew into his arms.
They kissed with wild abandon, their hands moving all over one another, as if they couldn’t quite believe that they were finally together.
“I’m sorry I was such a coward,” Miles mumbled against Logan’s lips. “I love you, Logan. I want to be with you now and forever more.”
Logan’s heart raced as he stared into Miles’s glittering eyes and saw the love and trust shining brightly in his gaze.
“I love you so much, Miles.”
He took his mouth in a slow, reverent kiss full of promise. Miles shivered, his fingers twitching on Logan’s back. Desire coiled through Logan and thickened his cock.
