Logan startled at the illicit direction his thoughts had just taken.

The stranger shivered and hugged the puppy. “Can we come in?”

Logan cursed himself and moved aside. “Of course. I apologize, I was just surprised you came here on foot, in this weather.” He closed the door and frowned at the man. “We should get you out of those clothes.”

The guy did a double take. “Pardon?”

Logan cursed himself for a whole other reason then.

Color was staining the man’s ears and cheekbones a delicate pink. He looked like a deer in the headlights. A sexy, skittish, and entirely delectable deer with brown eyes he could drown in.

And Logan was very much starting to feel like a wolf.

CHAPTER4

Miles’s heartthudded against his ribs as he stared at the attractive, dark-haired man studying him across the foyer. The stranger had a few inches on him and was blessed with the most striking gray-blue eyes Miles had ever seen.

They reminded him of an ocean just before a storm.

“You’ll catch a cold if you stay in those,” the man said steadily, indicating Miles’s wet shorts and T-shirt.

Heat flooded Miles’s cheeks. He’d evidently misunderstood the guy.

He swallowed to hide his embarrassment. He’d expected to see the old vet who’d run the practice when he’d come knocking at the door, not some hot guy who probably turned heads wherever he went.

“Is Mr. Prescott here?” Miles said, unable to mask the hope in his voice.

The guy’s mouth twitched. “I’m Mr. Prescott. Logan Prescott. I suspect you’re looking for my uncle Tom. He’s retired. I’ve just taken over his clinic.”

Miles blinked. “Oh. I’m sorry, I didn’t know.” He paused awkwardly. “I’m Miles. Miles Martinez.”

Logan smiled faintly. “It’s nice to meet you, Miles.”

Miles’s pulse quickened.

Logan observed the puppy. “Why don’t I take a look at this little guy while you get yourself dry?”

Miles relaxed a little. “I wouldn’t mind a towel if you have one.”

“I’m staying in the apartment on the second floor, so you might as well get yourself properly dry.” Logan’s gaze skimmed Miles’s body. “I should have some clothes that will fit you.”

Miles’s belly contracted. He wasn’t sure why he was so self-conscious around this guy.

“Are you sure?” he mumbled.

Amusement brightened Logan’s eyes. “You’re hardly giving me serial killer vibes so, yeah, I’m sure.”

Miles flushed. “Alright.”

He almost winced at the breathy way the word came out.

God, he must think I’m a fool.

Miles stiffened slightly when Logan took the puppy from him. He felt reluctant to let go of the dog for some reason.

“I found him in a box, by the side of the road.”

Logan raised an eyebrow. “He isn’t yours?” He examined the cut on the puppy’s leg, his touch gentle.
