Addison seemed a little too eager to enter my sanctuary. “I’m afraid the answer is still no.”

She leaned against a column. “You’re a young, single woman like me. What made you decide to hide away in your own personal Fortress of Solitude?”

“I like a house with history.”

She smiled in the direction of the cemetery. “And plenty of dead people, apparently.”

“Cemeteries bring down house prices, which worked in my favor.” I refused to open the door while she stood on my porch. I didn’t like her, and I certainly didn’t trust her.

“Leo also told me there’s a lion at large. Isn’t that crazy? A lion in a small town like this?”

Something in her tone of voice triggered me. I pivoted to face her. “Let’s cut to the chase. We both know you’re not human, so you can drop the act.”

Addison flashed a wicked smile. “Neither are you. Are you sure this is a game you want to play?”

I tried to stay calm. Just because she identified me as supernatural didn’t mean she knew any more than that. “Why wouldn’t I?”

“Because if someone has to win, that means someone has to lose.” She made a frowny face in the air with her fingers.

“What are you?”

She wagged a finger. “Nah-ah-ah. That’s not how this game works. I’ve given you all the information you need to figure it out. If you’re as clever as I think you are, you’ll reach the right conclusion soon enough.”

“You haven’t given me squat,” I retorted. “I know your name and that you like to canoodle with Officer Leo, which is understandable. The guy is hot, in a sweet Labrador puppy kind of way.”

She fanned herself. “And that tongue isn’t just for wagging.”

“TMI, stranger.” I didn’t want to know the details of anyone else’s sexual exploits, especially not when it had been so long since I had any of my own.

“If you’re in the mood for a little loving, the goat might be able to help you with that.”

There was a goat? “I’ve been in close contact with thewild boar, the wolf, the donkey, and the lion, but they had no impact on me. Why not?”

She offered a nonchalant shrug. “You tell me.”

“I’d say supernaturals aren’t affected, but I know that isn’t true because of the fight at Devil’s Playground.”

“I’ll give a little hint. Only weaker minds are affected. Looks like yours is strong enough to withstand their influence. Congrats.”

“How do you know all this?”

“I’m highly educated. Can I come in now?”

My jaw tensed. I didn’t want this woman anywhere near me, let alone on my property. “No. I’d like you to leave.”

She clasped her hands together. “But we have so much to discuss!”

“Like what?”

“You’ll see. Toodles.” Addison blew me a kiss and disappeared.

I stared at the spot where she’d been standing, wondering if I’d just conversed with a ghost without realizing it.

No, that wasn’t possible. I had control over ghosts, and I hadnocontrol over Addison Gray.

“What’s the matter, Lorelei?” Ray asked. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

“She wasn’t,” I said, “yet she disappeared right before my eyes.”
