Thankfully, it’s not a ring. But, it is the most beautiful pendant necklace with a deep red stone.

“I love it! A garnet – it’s a garnet, right?” I ask, wrinkling my brow in confusion.

“It is. From my calculations, our baby will be born in January. January’s birthstone is a garnet.”

I beam at him. What a lovely idea…

“And if I’m wrong, I’ll just buy you another necklace with the right stone.”

We both laugh and fall into each other’s arms again, holding on tightly.

“You’ve blown me away, Spencer Sullivan. I’m completely at a loss for words right now.”

“Mission accomplished,” he says giving me a wink. “Next order of business…”

“I’m all ears.”

“I want to start the process of getting to know you better asap. What do you think about a weekend away in the mountains?” he asks.

“That sounds incredible. When are you thinking?”

“This weekend? Maybe Lauren would let you take Friday afternoon off and we can get a jump on the traffic?”

“She might be okay with that. Especially if I can find the perfect date for a pig farmer.”

He looks at me quizzically and laughs. “I’m sure you’re the girl for the job. I mean, you even found me a couple of dates before I realized my perfect match was right in front of my face.”

“Yeah, you weren’t the easiest person to match. So many strict requirements…”

“I think you did just fine.”

I blush and tip my head up for another kiss. Oh, those lips, I can’t get enough.

Chapter 22

Spencer

Iget out of the rental Tesla and stretch my arms up to the sky. It’s a stunning spring afternoon and the trees are starting to look alive again, sprouting out their new green leaves.

Sasha was able to wrangle the entire day off from work. I think Lauren is so pleased we are giving this thing a try, she probably would have been willing to give her a whole week off if she asked.

“Oh my God, this place is stunning,” Sasha says looking over at the mountain property I booked the moment she said yes earlier this week. The house has the rustic feel of a cabin with all the amenities of a luxury resort.

“I did good?” I ask with a teasing glance her way.

“It appears so. I need to inspect it more closely before I give you a final answer though.”

“Inspect away.”

I take her hand and we head to the front door.

Every room is more perfect than the next. The entire house has reclaimed wood flooring that shines with a rich amber glow. Equipped with state-of-the-art appliances and marblecountertops, the kitchen could have been right out of a magazine. Exposed beam ceilings give the living room a homey rustic feel. The overstuffed couches flank an enormous fireplace with loads of firewood stacked neatly. Luckily, I was a scout when I was a kid and still know how to start a fire. But, if I can’t be bothered, I have a number to call and the property management company will send someone right over to whip us up a roaring fire.

We find the master bedroom tucked into the corner of the first floor with the most incredible view of the mountains. Sasha pauses to take the view in and I come up behind her, my arms encircling her and giving her a tight hug. She leans into me and sighs. I feel like I could stay this way forever.

She finally breaks out of my hug to turn toward me and begins to nuzzle into my neck.

“Damn, you smell good,” she says breathing in deeply.
