“Hmm… glad you like it. I just picked it up at Barney’s the other day.”

“It’s fabulous. Not overpowering. Just something subtle you want to dig your nose into and get another whiff.”

We both flop down on the king-size bed, moans of relaxation and comfort escaping from our lips.

“I feel like I could sleep for days,” she says. “I’ve been so tired with the pregnancy. If I’m lucky enough to lay down for a nap, I wake up 2 hours later drooling on my pillow. And I’m not even really a nap girl. It’s crazy.”

“Thank God you’ve been able to work from home some. It helps a lot that you and Lauren are tight and she knows what you’re going through.”

“Totally. Lauren knows I’m going to give the job my all. But I still needed some flexibility in my hours so that I can take care of myself and the baby.”

I lay there for a minute thinking about how much I needed this break too. Work has been off the charts busy. I just want to hole up with Sasha for a few days and let my frantic life slip away.

The drive up had been easy and relaxing and entertaining all at the same time. We got into a long conversation about our childhoods and I was pleasantly surprised by how many similarities we share.

Even though we grew up differently in some respects, our families had a lot of similar traditions. Things like sacred Sunday dinners, summer trips to Maine to visit relatives and winter ski trips.

Sasha rolls onto her side and grins at me. “So, what should we do now?”

I raise my eyebrows and trail a finger toward her impressive cleavage.

“Oh, yes, I agree 100%,” she said reaching out her hand and running it through the back of my hair. “However, before we dothat, I need food.”

I’m so pleased that she’s hungry. I’ve been worried about her after finding out the nausea has been rough. I had the local gourmet grocery store here stock the kitchen and I made sure to get plenty of soup, saltines and ginger ale in case that was all she could keep down.

“Great! What do you feel like eating?” I ask, sitting up.

“Oddly enough, I want Mexican food. Like, maybe a burrito or enchiladas or nachos. That sounds so good to me right now.”

“Your wish is my command. But first I need a kiss.” I reach over and place my lips on hers with a longing to let her know what’s in store for later tonight.

Leading her back to the kitchen, I open up the fridge to see what provisions the store sent over. Right on top, I find the most amazing looking beef and cheese enchilada just waiting to be popped into the oven.

“Yes! Perfect,” she exclaims, clapping her hands.

While we’re waiting for the meal to heat up Sasha picks up the visitor’s sign-in book and starts thumbing through it.

“I love to see what people write about in these books,” she says.

“I’ve never thought to do that. It feels kind of intrusive or something to me.”

She laughs and starts reading one of the entries aloud. “Thanks so much for an amazing stay. We enjoyed everything this place has to offer. On our final night, my boyfriend proposed. I’m over the moon. We hope to come back as a married couple very soon.” She blushes slightly and closes the book. She grabs a magazine and starts thumbing through it.

The timer buzzes, indicating our dinner is ready.

“Where should we eat?” I ask.

She glances into the gorgeous dining room with a table big enough to seat twelve.

“How about right here?” she pats her hand on the granite island.

“Perfect,” I say, preferring the idea of a cozy dinner sitting close to her. “I want you close enough that I can touch you.”

The Mexican dish tastes as good as it looks and we both get our fill.

Grabbing a container of decadent-looking chocolate-covered strawberries from the fridge, we head into the living room and I light a roaring fire. I’m surprised at how easy it is. It’s been a long time but it all comes back to me.

“Wow, I’m impressed!” Sasha says, tucking her legs up under her on the big white couch and biting into a strawberry.
